13. You perfected in censure a defect not enumerated
By a jurist or an excess from the arbitrator

١٣. لا عطَّلَ اللهُ دَمعاً سالَ وَهْوَ دَمٌ

17. O passing travelers look upon us as we kindle a glance
From your light, for it guides the eye in darkness

١٧. خَطَّ العِذارُ على مصقولِ عارضِهِ
حِسابَ أسْراهُ توليداً من الرَّقَمِ

18. I stripped the heart of stirring grief following after you
Pursuing a sealed eyelid that did not sleep

١٨. أغَمضتُ شكوايَ من جَورٍ فَفسَّرها
بجَمعِنا منهُ بينَ الخَصْمِ والحَكَمِ

19. I set my eyes upon espying your phantom, expectantly
Awaiting the visitation of delusion in a fanciful dream

١٩. يا طالما مَثَّلتْ عينايَ صُورَتهُ
كمَنظَرٍ في غَديرِ الماءِ مُرتسِمِ

20. I confined the contingent parts of passion so I am

٢٠. بَكَيتُ فافتَرَّ فانْجابتْ لنا دُرَرٌ
حتى تَطابَقَ منثورٌ بمُنتظمِ

٢١. هازَلتُهُ في اتِّساعِ الجِدِّ تَوْرِيةً
فقالَ سَلْ مَنْ أحلَّ الصَيدَ في الحَرَمِ

22. I embroidered the blossoms of basil with streaming tears, harmoniously

راعَى النَظيرَ فغَطَّى الوَردَ بالعَنَمِ

25. Until forbearance betrayed me after obeying it
And the shedding of tears that were in safekeeping

٢٥. خَيَّرتُهُ بينَ عيني والحَشا فَثَوَى
عيني ليَحجُبَها عن سائرِ النَسَمِ

يُجدي العتابُ ولا الشَكوَى مَعَ الصممِ

أهلُ الهَوَى بمِلاحِ الأرضِ كُلِّهمِ

Leave off hoping for what will not transpire with him

٤٠. بَكَيتُ حَوْلاً ولكنْ غيرَ مُعتذرٍ
وغيرَ مُستدرِكِ التلميحِ بالنَدَمِ

41. Rather, let the family augur water in a rocky cistern
They are the noble ones, for them amongst nobles lies passion

٤١. طرَّزتُ زَهْرَ الرُّبَى بالدَّمع مُنسجماً
في طيّ مُنسجِمٍ في طَيِّ مُنسجِمِ

47. In whose mouth are pearls and the silvern star cured me of my malady
It equaled upon a tablet of ruby for its cheek

٤٧. وأدمُعٌ أربَعٌ ضَمَّنتُ مُزدَوِجاً
منها فَرائدَ ياقوتٍ فقُلتُ عِمِي

48. Two lines of aromatic script without a pen

53. Good tidings to you for attaining an eminence none have tossed at
My feet hastened to a death

٥٣. ولو تَنفّستُ فوقَ البحرِ حينَ غَلا
غليلُ صَدري لخُضتُ البحرَ بالقَدَمِ

54. That did not attain my resolve by a morsel
The pact of my right hand by the rare beauty has not ceased

صَدراً لعَجْزٍ ينادي جِيرةَ العَلَمِ

أشهى وأشهَرُ من تَفريعِ ذِكرِهمِ

٦٤. فَوِّفْ وصُغْ جملاً وأنشدْ وطِبْ زَجَلاً

فلا يُراعُون للتأديب من حُرَمِ

١٠٧. ما غَيَّرَ اللهُ عنهم عَقدَ نِعمتهِ
إلاّ وقد غيّروا ما في نفوسِهمِ

١٠٨. كلٌّ يرُوحُ بلا زادٍ سِوَى عمَلٍ
حتَّى المُلوكُ فلا تَستثنِ من أرَمِ

١٠٩. أينَ الذين رَوَى الراوونَ من دُولٍ
وأينَ مَن أرَّخوهُ من ذَوي العِظَمِ

١١٠. شيبٌ ومُردٌ وأجنادٌ وألْويةٌ
تَفنَى جميعاً كأنْ ما قام لم يَقُمِ

١١١. أجسامُهم للثَّرَى تُعطَى وأنفُسُهم
للهِ والمالُ للأعقابِ في القِسَمِ

١١٢. لا بُدَّ للجمعِ من داعٍ يُفرِّقُهُ
لكن تفاوُتُهُ في الطُّرْقِ الهممِ

١١٣. والأمس واليوم في الترتيب مثل غد
لهو ولعب يزج السم في الدسم

١١٤. بئسَ الحياةُ التي طابت أوائلها
إن لم يكن طابَ منها حُسنُ مُختَتَمِ
