Except weeping for an irreversible matter

2. Woe to us from you, you have confused us
Not from the tune of the flute but from the tune of elegy

For a great dignified person who is missing

4. The next day after separation I offered condolences
To composure, determination, daring and generosity

5. This trusted prince lies
In a wonderful constellation of mansions envied

6. God has deposited in him the best gem
In the best treasure watched over by the eyes of grace

7. He who was a pillar of refuge against
The intrigues of time with its extended shade

8. He who gives thousands and leads armies and does not
Fear battles and meets every mighty hero

9. He who had vast views
That the expanse of the desert was too narrow for

10. This generous one whose gifts
Used to surround people like a necklace around the neck

11. Oh, the west of Lebanon, do not shake all confused
Be gentle, for excess is not praiseworthy

12. Patience over the misfortune of worldly life that has turned
Against the tribe of Ad and overvalued Solomon the son of David

13. Do not take off your mourning clothes for
One whose generosity was unlimited

14. Do not forget one who never forgot a friend nor
Neglect throughout life the enumerating of laments and condolences

15. Fate has betrayed you in its fluctuations
Until you traded white nights for black ones

16. The nights of happiness were numbered so they passed
And left behind the sadness of an uncounted lifetime

17. Woe to these days that left
No heart undisturbed and no pillar undemolished

18. They do not unite people except to later disperse them
What avails him to gather and disperse

19. This is our treasure, oh land, so preserve it
Until the day of witnessed resurrection

20. You are entrusted with this trustee so do not
Surrender the light of that face to the worms

21. Oh grave, the most honourable of the dead lies in you today
And the most splendid of the newborns

22. Preserve the dignity of one whose dignity
Used to flow to guests like water in vines

23. I have surrendered to you Lebanon's protector in sorrow
He to whom holds were surrendered

24. He who established the glory of the lineage of Rasslan from old
Renewing the kingdom of Lahm of what renewal!

25. I still hoped for longevity for him
I was thus deceiving myself with deadlines

26. And composing elegies after losing him
Has replaced composing congratulations and singing

27. Oh he whose praise we grieve being unable
To compose poetry for, other than habitual eulogy

28. Unique examples have become numerous for you today
While your example had not previously existed

29. This one who makes minds humble
And splits the heart with deaf stones

30. Let one who has not benefited from advice of the living
