then one night he was snatched away stealthily like a wolf.

3. O grieving mother, be patient,
for patience is the best healer.

4. Do not cast off your mourning clothes -
continue lamenting him as befits the bereaved.

5. That delicate branch was struck
by the arrow of fate and died unripe.

6. Who now remains with his skill in writing and sums,
and ability to manage and train?

7. I am not ashamed to say none can match him
among men - I speak truly.

8. A man gives his tongue free rein in speech
if he has no fear of lies.

9. I stood by the edge of his grave
to water his tomb with my streaming tears.

10. And I wrote on his tablet,
"Oh my anguish at what is written!"

11. Tomb, you have dignity and love from me
because you contain my beloved.
