1. Stand between the sweet-smelling myrtle and its branches,
And say peace be upon the myrtle and its people.

2. And say peace be upon the dwellings of the youth,
Of whom only his greeting and question remain.

3. For a quarter I stood calling out to its ruins,
Until I was afflicted to the point I became part of its ruins.

4. I once had patience like some of its plains,
And today I have a longing like some of its mountains.

5. Do not deny that the beloved robbed me of my sanity,
What can one do against someone free to do as he pleases with his money?

6. He rode purpose and I was denied the sight of his face,
And he went far and I was denied even the image of his apparition.

7. If one is infatuated with singers, well I
Am infatuated with one who has no thought of singers in his mind.

8. The one who crosses deep waters, his feet are not wet,
And the straps of his sandals are not cut.

9. A pioneer of goals, he attains with his actions
What none other attains in their hopes.

10. Innocence is between his tongue and heart,
And the sea is between his right and left side.

11. Late in his time, yet ahead
In his virtues, unique in his state.

12. It is not time that differentiates,
But differentiation occurs through its men.

13. Between me and you is a sea full of water,
O sea of knowledge, whose insights surpassed its shores!

14. Gems shine from you openly to us,
Above what has been locked in treasuries.

15. Wondrous! He did not solve it when you were obscure to him,
Indeed the wicked is inclined toward base traits.

The ships have carried away moons from you,

17. As the ship of Noah carried away generations of his people.
It is the way of nights to distance a companion,

18. Until their passing is like their arrival.
They are like vapor, so one holds onto their ropes,

19. Hoping as one holds onto their likeness.
One who knows what of his life has passed,

20. It enriches him beyond a future with its likeness.
A day passes like its yesterday in its deception,

21. And a tomorrow passes like its day in its refusal.
O you who bid farewell to a departing traveler,

22. Do you hope to greet him upon his return?
This small separation, yet you will see
