1. You asked, as the palm trees clapped,
How are the slopes after us and the lightning?

2. Have the barren lands been rained after the pebbles,
And do those gazelles still graze?

3. O neighbors of the alive neighborhood who endured
What I never thought we would separate

4. I ask Allah, the Almighty, that
I left you and remained alive, sustained

5. And I cried for the homes, so it saddened me
A tear that has vastness and a narrow eyelid

6. And tears are of some waters, its little
Quenches, but the abundant drowns

7. Is there a messenger from me conveying greetings,
From the musk whose scent the gentle winds scatter?

8. It meets its sleeves so the branches bend
Shyly, and it meets the stars so they flutter

9. A Bedouin woman from the family of Murrah has halted
Stealing hearts with a glance that captivates

10. From her moles and beauty, a disaster,
From the mark of her forehead, a hostile blue

11. O pearl of the diver, shroud its hiding
And live when this hiding is torn

12. If the pupils were stamped in it, you would see it
Like a shield with a pupil staring into it

13. If no foot comes your way stealthily,
Fearing the guard, then hearts can steal to you

14. I once had a heart that passion flew away with
So now I roam heartless, and love

15. A passion ignited within my ribs
It used to burn them, so they burn

16. Patience I prepared for tribulations has thrived
And the steed of my fervor is saddled

17. A longing that stirs towards whom I forget
The fervor of wandering beauty engrossed

18. The broad-chested poet, the discerned
Famous writer, the elegant man of knowledge

19. A banner that extends its porches over Iraq
And by it capitals are shaded and patched

20. The Everlasting who is His servant has maintained for him
Morals from Al-Farooq that do not separate

21. From it, tranquility, asceticism, piety,
Justice and clemency that does not worry

22. A full moon in the horizon of the East has risen
Setting as a westerner, and rising as an easterner

23. He remains at the peak of perfection, no
Deficiency or eclipse has clung to him

24. He is that man whose traces
Cannot be followed, and whose dust cannot be reached

25. For him are the openings when a rebel resists
In every dilemma, and the sturdy one despairs

26. His gems come to me preceding
And he in every merit precedes

27. Perhaps it is like the dawn preceding its sun
And the sun approaches after that and rises

28. The eye that craved to see his face
Rejoiced at seeing his script

29. The trace of loved ones is relished like
How a canine relishes a scent it picks up

30. His benefits immersed the distant with its obtaining
Like the near, and its obtaining flows

31. Like the sea, it sends its pearls to
Who does not see it, like one delving into it

32. O moon, without whom
The expanse of deserts cannot be, not the encircling clouds

33. If you have distanced from us departing
Then the distance is more agonizing for hearts and longing

34. I praise you as if I were obliging
While the favor is yours to one who verifies

35. Had there been no virtues of yours I spoke of in praise
Then with what would my poetry speak?
