1. I see the temptations of this world as the greatest sign,
Through which even the guide goes astray, distracted from the other.

ูก. ุฃุฑูŽู‰ ููุชู†ูŽุฉูŽ ุงู„ุฏู‘ูู†ูŠุง ู‡ูŠ ุงู„ุขูŠุฉู ุงู„ูƒูุจุฑูŽู‰
ูŠูŽุถูู„ู‘ู ุจู‡ุง ุงู„ู‡ุงุฏูŠ ููŠู„ู‡ูˆ ุนู† ุงู„ุฃูุฎุฑูŽู‰

2. We were heedless of what was in it due to ignorance,
So the owner of the house knows not what is in it more than others.

ูข. ุบูŽููŽู„ู’ู†ุง ุจู‡ุง ุนู…ู‘ูŽุง ุจู‡ุง ุนู† ุฌูŽู‡ุงู„ุฉู
ูู„ูŠุณูŽ ุจู…ุง ููŠ ุงู„ุจูŠุชู ุตุงุญุจูู‡ู ุฃุฏุฑูŽู‰

3. Death stands waiting in ambush,
Whoever escapes its right hand, it takes him with the left.

ูฃ. ุชูŽุธูŽู„ู‘ู ุงู„ู…ู†ุงูŠุง ูˆุงู‚ูุงุชู ุจู…ูŽุฑุตูŽุฏู
ูู…ู† ูุงุชูŽ ูŠูู…ู†ุงู‡ุง ุชูŽู„ูŽู‚ู‘ูŽุชู’ู‡ู ุจุงู„ูŠูุณุฑูŽู‰

4. We see it without contemplation of what we see,
Like the letter Alif in the name Amr, it crosses but is not read.

ูค. ู†ูŽุฑุงู‡ุง ุนู„ู‰ ุบูŠุฑ ุงุนุชุจุงุฑู ุจู…ุง ู†ุฑู‰
ูƒู…ุง ุงู„ูˆุงูˆ ููŠ ุนู…ุฑูˆู ุชูุฎูŽุทู‘ู ูˆู„ุง ุชูู‚ุฑุง

5. He who walks behind the funeral thinks that he
Is safe, not knowing he will meet the same fate.

ูฅ. ูŠูŽุธูู†ู‘ู ุงู„ุฐูŠ ุฎู„ููŽ ุงู„ุฌูู†ุงุฒุฉู ุฃู†ู‘ูŽู‡ู
ุฃู…ูŠู†ูŒ ูู„ุง ูŠุฌุฑูŠ ุนู„ู‰ ุฐู„ูƒ ุงู„ู…ูŽุฌุฑูŽู‰

6. His eyes see the grave being dug while his heart
Is preoccupied with building a palace.

ูฆ. ุชุฑู‰ ุนูŠู†ูู‡ู ุญูููŽุฑูŽ ุงู„ุถู‘ูŽุฑูŠุญู ูˆู‚ู„ุจูู‡ู
ู‡ู†ุงู„ููƒูŽ ู…ุดุบูˆู„ูŒ ุจุฃู†ู’ ูŠุจุชู†ูŠ ู‚ูŽุตู’ุฑุง

7. A covering from this world is upon us as if
It has cast a spell upon the eyes.

ูง. ุบูุดุงุกูŒ ู…ู† ุงู„ุฏู‘ูู†ูŠุง ุนู„ูŠู†ุง ูƒุฃู†ู‘ูŽู‡ุง
ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุญูŽุฏูŽู‚ู ุงู„ุฃุจุตุงุฑู ู‚ุฏ ูƒูŽุชูŽุจุชู’ ุณูุญู’ุฑุง

8. Every day we get a sermon from a funeral
But our ears are deaf to its message.

ูจ. ู„ู†ุง ูƒู„ู‘ูŽ ูŠูˆู…ู ุฎูุทุจุฉูŒ ู…ู† ุฌูู†ุงุฒุฉู
ูˆู„ูƒู†ู‘ูŽ ููŠ ุงู„ุขุฐุงู†ู ุนู† ุตูˆุชู‡ุง ูˆูŽู‚ู’ุฑุง

9. An affliction has befallen Baghdad, laid waste,
Causing Syria to tremble and shaking Egypt.

ูฉ. ู‚ุฏู ุงู†ุฏูŽูƒู‘ูŽ ููŠ ุจูŽุบุฏุงุฏูŽ ุทูŽูˆู’ุฏูŒ ูุฃุฌููŽู„ูŽุชู’
ู„ู‡ู ุงู„ุดู‘ูŽุงู…ู ุญุชู‰ ู‡ุฒู‘ูŽ ู…ู† ู‡ูŽูˆู’ู„ูู‡ู ู…ูุตุฑุง

10. The messenger of separation came upon him unawares
When he felt secure, assailing him treacherously.

ูกู . ุฃุชุงู‡ู ุฑุณูˆู„ู ุงู„ุจูŠู†ู ููŠ ุญูŠู† ุบูู„ุฉู
ูˆู‚ุฏ ู‡ุงุจู‡ู ุฌูŽู‡ู’ุฑุงู‹ ูุฏุงู‡ูŽู…ูŽู‡ู ุบูŽุฏู’ุฑุง

11. The Eternal chose him, His devoted servant,
Taking him on a blessed night to be in His presence.

ูกูก. ู‚ุฏ ุงุฎุชุงุฑู‡ู ุงู„ุจุงู‚ูŠ ุงู„ุฐูŠ ู‡ูˆ ุนุจุฏูู‡ู
ุจู„ูŠู„ู ุฅู„ูŠู‡ู ููŠ ุงู„ุทู‘ูุจุงู‚ู ุจู‡ู ุฃุณุฑูŽู‰

12. For the world there was mourning,
While in the heavens there was celebration of Eid and sacrifice.

ูกูข. ููƒุงู†ูŽ ู„ู‡ู ููŠ ุฏุงุฑุฉู ุงู„ุฃุฑุถู ู…ุฃุชูŽู…ูŒ
ูˆููŠ ุงู„ุนุฑุดู ุนูŠุฏูŒ ูŠุฌู…ุนู ุงู„ููุทุฑูŽ ูˆุงู„ู†ู‘ูŽุญุฑุง

13. A peerless Imam of his time,
His noble qualities adorned the age.

ูกูฃ. ุฅู…ุงู…ูŒ ู…ู† ุงู„ุฃูุฑุงุฏ ููŠ ุฃู‡ู„ ุนุตุฑูู‡ู
ุดู…ุงุฆู„ูู‡ู ุงู„ุบุฑู‘ูŽุงุกู ู‚ุฏ ุฒุงู†ุช ุงู„ุนูŽุตู’ุฑุง

14. The most astute of creation in thought, the most generous of hand,
The most eloquent in prose and poetry.

ูกูค. ุฃุฏูŽู‚ู‘ู ุงู„ูˆูŽุฑูŽู‰ ูููƒุฑุงู‹ ูˆุฃูƒุฑู…ูู‡ูู… ูŠุฏุงู‹
ูˆุฃูุตูŽุญูู‡ู… ู†ุธู…ุงู‹ ูˆุฃุจู„ุบูู‡ู… ู†ูŽุซุฑุง

15. He is Al-Umarฤซ, eminent and noble,
Bestowed with this by Al-Fฤrลซq, and he is the most deserving.

ูกูฅ. ู‡ูˆูŽ ุงู„ุนูู…ูŽุฑููŠู‘ู ุงู„ุจุงุฐุฎู ุงู„ุดู‘ูŽุฑูู ุงู„ุฐูŠ
ุญุจุงู‡ู ุจู‡ู ุงู„ูุงุฑูˆู‚ู ูˆู‡ูˆูŽ ุจู‡ู ุฃุญุฑูŽู‰

16. His beautiful praise, time will never erase,
I speak truly, but his remembrance will erase time.

ูกูฆ. ุฌู…ูŠู„ู ุงู„ุซู‘ูŽู†ุง ู„ุง ูŠู‚ุทุนู ุงู„ุฏู‘ูŽู‡ุฑู ุฐููƒุฑูŽู‡ู
ุตุฏู‚ุชู ูˆู„ูƒู† ุฐููƒุฑูู‡ู ูŠู‚ุทุนู ุงู„ุฏู‘ูŽู‡ุฑุง

17. If he now lies shrouded in his white garb,
In Paradise he is clad in green silk.

ูกูง. ู„ุฆู† ุจุงุชูŽ ููŠ ุฃูƒูุงู†ู‡ู ุงู„ุจูŠุถู ู…ูุฏุฑูŽุฌุงู‹
ูููŠ ุฌูŽู†ู‘ูŽุฉู ุงู„ุฎูู„ุฏู ุงุฑุชุฏูŽู‰ ุณูู†ุฏูุณุงู‹ ุฎูุถู’ุฑุง

18. If he tasted no wine on earth,
There he is given a drink with no aftermath of drunkenness.

ูกูจ. ูˆุฅู† ู„ู… ูŠูŽุฐูู‚ู’ ููŠ ุงู„ุฃุฑุถู ุฎู…ุฑุงู‹ ูู‚ุฏ ุณูู‚ูŠ
ู‡ู†ุงูƒูŽ ุฎู…ูˆุฑุงู‹ ุบูŠุฑูŽ ู…ูุนู‚ุจุฉู ุณููƒุฑุง

19. I used to reap pearls from his words, now
I reap stars in praising him.

ูกูฉ. ู„ู‚ุฏ ูƒูู†ุชู ุฃุฌู†ูŠ ุงู„ุฏูุฑู‘ูŽ ู…ู† ู„ูุธู‡ู ูˆู‡ุง
ุฃู†ุง ู…ู† ุซู†ุงู‡ู ุงุฌุชู„ูŠ ุงู„ุฃู†ุฌูู…ูŽ ุงู„ุฒู‘ูู‡ุฑุง

20. I recall of his kindness and affection
Wondrous subtleties I cannot enumerate.

ูขู . ูˆุฃุฐูƒุฑู ู…ู† ุฃู„ุทุงููู‡ู ูˆูˆูุฏุงุฏู‡ู
ุจุฏุงุฆุนูŽ ุดูŽุชู‘ูŽู‰ ู„ุง ุฃูุทูŠู‚ู ู„ู‡ุง ุฐููƒุฑุง

21. Composing this elegy weighs heavy on my heart,
My tears are about to exhaust the ink.

ูขูก. ูŠูŽุดูู‚ู‘ู ุนู„ู‰ ู‚ู„ุจูŠ ุฑูุซุงุกูŒ ุฃุฎูุทู‘ูู‡ู
ู„ู‡ู ูˆุฏู…ูˆุนูŠ ุฃูˆุดูƒุช ุชูุฐูู‡ุจู ุงู„ุญูุจู’ุฑุง

22. Soon the page in my hand will ignite,
From the intense sighs of grief rising from me.

ูขูข. ูˆุชููˆุดููƒู ุฃู† ุชูุตู„ู‰ ุงู„ุตู‘ูŽุญูŠูุฉู ููŠ ูŠุฏูŠ
ูุชูุญุฑูŽู‚ู ู…ู† ุชุตุนูŠุฏู ุฃู†ูุงุณููŠูŽ ุงู„ุญูŽุฑู‘ู‹ู‰

23. May God water a grave that contains his like,
And how many hearts wish it were their grave!

ูขูฃ. ุณูŽู‚ูŽู‰ ุงู„ู„ู‡ ู‚ุจุฑุงู‹ ุถู…ู‘ูŽ ุฃุนุธูู…ูŽู‡ู ูˆูƒู…
ูุคุงุฏู ุชู…ู†ู‘ูŽู‰ ุฃู† ูŠูƒูˆู†ูŽ ู„ู‡ู ู‚ูŽุจู’ุฑุง

24. If the grave had power over its affairs,
It would restore him from decay and treasure him.

ู„ุฑูŽุฏู‘ูŽ ุงู„ุจูู„ูŽู‰ ุนู†ู‡ู ูˆุงุญุฑูŽุฒูŽู‡ู ุฐูุฎุฑุง
