1. He called me to love a maiden of India,
So I set a seal upon that forevermore.

2. When the blackness of hair turns white one day,
The blackness of eyes becomes darkness.

3. For the days of youth there is splendor, but
Afterwards the taste will turn bitter.

4. And man will forget from regretful sorrow
The sweetness of all that has passed away.

5. The life of people in this world is delusion,
Like an eye that saw a dream in sleep.

6. When it wakes it laughs at it,
And knows it was merely fancy.

Ask the virtuous Shaykh Al-Hussein

8. Whenever you see him, and he will guide you
With wisdom for the problems of this age,

9. And you will drink from his words a draught
Pure, that will quench the thirsty, not sate them.

10. The most righteous of the virtuous in hand and heart,
The purest of his comrades in manner and deed,

11. The most generous in nature and sublime in worth,
The wisest in wisdom and firmest in resolve,

12. Who gathered together the gems from among men
As a necklace gathers the scattered pearls in its thread.

13. He stood for the laws of God, seeking only
His pleasure, uniting knowledge and deed.

14. He fulfilled the noble pilgrimage to the place
Where Abraham established its rites.

15. And his hands once cast stones at the devils,
Pouring upon the hosts of evil a shower.

16. O best of those who cried Labbayk, circumambulated,
Offered sacrifice, and called the talbiyah!
