1. For your eyes, oh gazelle with the two dark pools,
I pine and yearn through the long night.

2. I left my homeland for love of you,
And their darkness covered me like the raven's wing.

3. Oh glance that pierced my heart
With an arrow from beneath lowered lids!

4. Your blackness struck the blackness of my heart;
War raged between the two darks.

5. I raced to you on the swift feet of desire,
But found not even a trace or sigh of longing.

6. So I returned, distracted from all reason
By talk of Muhammad, Hussein's son.

7. Noble, from a noble father and mother,
His lineage extending to the noble past.

8. In our land his family has long repute
That this youth now upholds in his two hands.

9. Handsome of face, praiseworthy in character,
Open of chest and open-handed.

10. Each day he does generous deeds
As if a religious duty or debt repaid.

11. One night he revealed to us a wedding
In the pairing of two brilliant lights.

12. Like two pearls joined together,
We wish the pair an unfading union.
