1. Do not weep for the dead, nor rejoice at a newborn,
For the dead are for worms, and the newborn for worms.

2. All that is above the earth you see,
Will be folded into nonexistence, in the garb of existence.

3. Wretched is a life without hope,
Between the adjustment of breaths, and exhalation.

4. No eye settles upon it for a year,
The highest, fear of endless sleep.

5. How the man was ignorant in the world and heedless of it,
And we do not avoid Solomon the son of David.

6. He sees and knows with confidence,
What is in it and is deceived by its promises.

7. Everyone leaves it empty-handed, without
Provision - so what is the difference between stinginess and generosity?

8. He is commended when he hoards wealth reluctantly given,
And giving it unwillingly earns no praise.

9. The afterlife was neglected, no soul busied itself
With the tune of the lute or the melody of the flute.

10. O eyes of absence, alluring are their gazes,
Stay, look and see how the eyes of the absent will be.

11. The crescent appears and the feast comes in grace,
What is the crescent and what is the joy of the feast?

12. A day you hope for, but do not own,
All are for a day, the morrow of separation is present.

13. Time has diminished in my eyes every eminent man,
Until every deceased and envied one was equal.

14. If I lose a loved one, I am patient,
For I will leave, grieved by the lost one.

15. O you who has a family, do not grieve,
For a family, and is there for you a pillar not destroyed?

16. We do not console you reverently and respectfully,
For you know best the proof and tradition.

17. For every disease there is a cure,
And for grief there is only great patience.

18. Patience for its companion is like an open chest,
For your patience is like a ruin in the ruins.

19. By God, which eye does not cry?
Which heart is not shaken?

20. If what you have been afflicted with is unavoidable,
The affliction is trivial between what is promised and impeded.

21. You are far from a sinful plot against the people,
Which causes sorrow for what is irrevocably lost.

22. Clemency in the heart is like a fence around a country,
And knowledge in the mind is like a necklace around the neck.
