1. You are always home to yearning in the abode
While you remain immune from its ailment

2. If this longing is a malady come of late
Then love is an age-old sickness of the heart

3. In every heart there lies a youthful nest
And for each youth a well-known watering place

4. Love is most resembling the beloved in dignity
So wherever the beloved is noble, love is noble

5. Hearts are wont to differ by decree of wisdom
For He who created hearts is All-Wise

6. If not for differences amongst humankind
No face would suffice to serve people's interests

7. In every eye there lies allure and sweetness
And to each soul belongs a bliss and bounty

8. What by their claim appears a vice
May be fair and what seems pure deemed mean

9. How many their soul's trespass defend
While advising you against it and objecting

10. If once you did wrong yourself
Some advisors may be unjust

11. World's people are set in constant dispute
Like time, dispute in their nature ingrained

12. Judgments of an age whose mysteries are not known
Save by the Knower of God, The All-Wise

13. You're the one we lay claim to in what we profess
O You of the spoken and the tacit meaning

14. O sea of outpouring, seas but gangways by your side
O full moon, planets but as stars around you

15. O master, time itself falls short of you
Abashed is he who called time mean

16. In your speech dispersed jewels abound
Decreed to be gifted to you this poetry

17. Truths by your loftiness obscured
Appearing to onlookers' eyes as forms

18. Of eloquence's sorcery marvels you evoked
Babylon's sorcerers dim compared to them

19. You revived ancient sciences, you who
Can revive the bones of the dead worn out

20. This is Solomon of the world but to
Obeying the Merciful, Abraham is he

21. The Franks cannot deny his prestige
The Turks witnessed for him, and the Romans

22. Owing you praise and eulogy a debt upon us
And for every debt a claimant and collector

23. Perhaps the excuse of one who falls short
More readily accepted than that of he who fails

24. Woe to him, time is lost and our raft
Still adrift in every valley wandering blind

25. O gentlest days of youth would that
You stayed and none but God remains eternal

26. Days toyed with me foolishly
So I complained to patience for it is forbearing

27. If you complain to one who listens, woe subsides
As if shared with him in full

28. O you scholar we called a sea, is it just
That the oppressed then turn to you?

29. Why call you sea when we're amidst you
As seas drown in you though they be forbearing

30. Era's kings recognized your worth wherever
The Protecting and Eternal dropped His staff

31. So you were loved among stars for ascendant
Whose auspicious rising timetables tell

32. I praise you by what I knew and what surpassed
My knowledge, its secret is concealed

33. If you forgive, goodness of consent suffices
If I apologize, acquiescence suffices
