1. And white I had awakened after slumber
And the night had worn the orange shirt
١. وَأَبيَض قَد نَبَّهتهُ بَعدَ هَجعَةٍ
وَقَد لَبِسَ اللَّيلُ القَميصَ الأَرَندَجا
2. I found him lovesick so I took him in
And I relieved what I hoped would give him comfort
٢. وَجَدتُ عَلَيهِ مَغرَماً فَقَبضتُهُ
وَفَرَّجتُ ما يرجى بِهِ أَن يُضَرَّجا
3. And whenever my people called me for help
I’d gird my belt when summoned to saddle
٣. وَكُنتُ إِذا قَومي دَعَوني لِنَجدَةٍ
شَدَدتُ نِطاقي حينَ أُدعى لأَسرَجا
4. So I’d uncover their worries and gain spoils
And extinguish what once was burning within
٤. فَأَكشِفُ غُمّاها وَأَكسبُ مَغنَما
وَأُطفي الَّذي قَد كانَ فيها مُؤَجَّجا
