1. Ask the morning breeze about me, did I meet with the one I love
Along with yearning except chastity was with me

2. My noble soul refuses baseness for me
It aspires for nothing but pleasure and contentment

3. And an ambition I don’t think disgrace can reach
Unless it has crossed every difficult path

4. No soul accompanied me when I aspired for what
Floods of death obeyed but did not comply

5. My home and destination are under the shade of glory
And in the heat of battle are my dwelling and seat

6. And I never took off the garment of honor from my hopes
Until I made armors of might my attire

7. And whoever’s manners are not disciplined by his virtues
Will not benefit from my bones
