1. The one who complained to me of the piercing sands
Has ensnared my heart in the traps of passion and blocked it

2. Why, O Rim, did you intentionally kill
With your enchanting glance, yet not pay blood money

3. O you who possess my heart and the fire of your beauty
Burns within my being

4. If the Christian priest were a witness
No flame but yours would he worship

5. The image of your beauty is my qibla
To it my heart prays passionately and bows down

6. I rejoiced in passion as an individual
For your beauty among mankind is matchless

7. The remedy for my patience lies in seeing
The magic of your glance that has captured my heart

8. Your beauty has power over us since it shone
And abundant hair adorned it like a crown

9. It made my body a target, so when
The arrows of your eyes shot me, none else they intended

10. The garden flourished with your cheek
With soft sweet water and blooming roses

11. And the mole near your temple in the garden of your cheek
For picking roses it stayed alert

12. Smiling with shining new teeth and some
Not yet milk teeth, and some just emerging

13. Neither purely white like pearls nor dark brown
Parted lips talking to it for a moment

14. If it acted in the past, its glance in rage
Is faster than a fast horse and sharper

15. If my eyes hurt, I will blame forever
His cheek, for it once retaliated

16. If the sun met his mouth, it would shyly
Hide itself in the clouds and fog

17. Like the sun, his face's light, but it
Dawned upon the lover in the house of the lion

18. How often the lover was promised to meet him
Yet never fulfilled the promise of that meeting

19. O you who turns your cheek from the mole
The drawing of my tears upon my tossed cheek

20. O you who bare your neck of jewelry
And adorned yourself with necklaces

21. O eyelashes heavily darkened with kohl
I darkened my eyelids for you with wakefulness

22. I hoped you would show me affection—lines
Like black moles adorned with beauty marks

23. You, my master in the path of love—I see
Ja'far's guidance has granted me righteousness

24. Make effort to attain glorious deeds
And choose the pearls of knowledge and effort

25. Through his effort he attained wishes
Excelling all mankind through effort and labor

26. You left it, O Pride! For it
Became under you lasting to the maximum

27. Taking refuge in the heart that is the essence of the Beloved
From the evil of every envier when he envies

28. Fix the envier's hand for it has blamed
With its twisted rope made of palm fiber

29. No wonder the most eminent of people is one who
From the sea of knowledge his knowledge drew

30. Give joy to the eye of his noble mother
Rarely is a mother's eye joyous for her son

31. May God elevate him to the highest rank
If the crescent moon sought to lower him, it would not ascend

32. He inherited from the noblest ancestors
Hand in hand, they pass it between them

33. You grew for eternal glory, O Family
None can match you in glory

34. O Family of Glory! I bestowed upon you
Fine virtues that mankind perpetually make anew

35. Your courtyard for delegations is like the Kaaba
No delegation ever went to any but it

36. Your hands' generosity upon mankind
Take aim—but aim it for all time

37. May God choose above all Muhammad
The best pillar for you, and your reliance

38. So hold tight to the strongest proof from him
That will silence the most hostile opponent

39. Whoever compares another's knowledge to him
Has compared the dew of the endless sea to a little water

40. One who tends the pearls of knowledge
Its ornamentations from an unfettered soul emanated

41. Never has any soul tended it with knowledge
So for the enemies to insult it they feigned

42. It holds on to the purity of its words
As if written in musk and seal rings

43. Its thought straightened it though it was deviant
No crookedness within it or bend

44. O you who raise the flag of knowledge high
That is one who has refrained from supporting religion

45. You raced to knowledge like a thoroughbred
As you woke up to the most sublime and dreamed

46. If the paths of knowledge are tread
They explain in religion newly opened paths

47. Your knowledge made people equal in law so everyone
Who tried grasped some of its meanings

48. Live an easy, blessed life
That no one in all time has blemished
