1. The asker at morn, of me and of them,
After the torrent with protruding rocks;
١. فَسائِل جَمعَنا عَنّا وَعَنهُم
غَداةَ السَيلِ بِالأَسَلِ الطَويلِ
2. Did we not leave their stalls dilapidated
Prostrate beneath the extending shadows?
٢. أَلَم نَترُك سَراتَهُمُ عَيامى
جُثوماً تَحتَ أَرجاءِ الذُيولِ
3. Widows bewail them with griefs accumulated
Amidst abandoned encampments and habitations;
٣. تُبَكّيها الأَرامِلُ بِالمَآلي
بِداراتِ الصَفائِحِ وَالنَصيلِ
4. And the war has passed by us,
On the waters of Dafinah and Al-Hajil.
٤. وَقَد مَرَّت كُماةُ الحَربِ مِنّا
عَلى ماءِ الدَفينَةِ وَالحَجيلِ
