1. Lo! Say to the mortals that a mortal at dawn
With horses like gazelles, adorned, caparisoned,
١. أَلا قُل لِبُشرَ إِن بِشَراً مُصَبَّحٌ
بِخَيلٍ كَأَمثالِ السَراحينَ شُزَّبِ
2. Is charging, driven on by Amr and Ubaydah,
Redeemed through thrusting amidst the fracas with mother and sire.
٢. يُقَحِّمُها عَمرو القَنا وَعُبَيدَةٌ
مُفدىً خِلالَ النَقعِ بِالأُمِ وَالأَبِ
3. There no old woman shall weep for her son
So rejoice at the stabbing of snub-nosed lances.
٣. هُنالِكَ لا تَبكي عَجوزٌ عَلى اِبنِها
فَأَبشِر بِجَدعٍ لِلأُنوفِ مُوَعَّبِ
4. Have you not seen us - by Allah - prevail
And whoever conquers fortunes with evil is conquered?
٤. أَلَم تَرَنا وَاللَهُ بالِغُ أَمرِهِ
وَمَن غالَبَ الأَقدارَ بِالشَرِّ يُغلَبُ
5. We have returned to the marshes, and the horses neighing
For good, so long as you have not pelted us with abuses.
٥. رَجِعنا إِلى الأَهوازِ وَالخَيلُ عُكَّفٌ
عَلى الخَيرِ ما لَم تَرمِنا بِالمُهَلَّبِ
