1. How long is the night to the wakeful one!
Will this night not end?

2. O breaker of promises, is there no chance
to fulfill my right against the departing one?

3. You left me amidst the deep sorrows of passion
in a turbulent sea of torment.

4. I hear in my heart the rustling of death
and glimpse the doubt in my thoughts.

5. At times I calm down from my panic,
at others I startle like a bird.

6. And between these two is the agony of a wound
that violently tears my heart.

7. Is there no intercessor to reunion?
Or no helper against separation?

8. O heart, do not despair, for wishes
come with patience and God aids the patient.
