1. My Lord, grant me sight of the eyes, by my right
And save me from an unjust one who leaves naught

2. I've avoided what I could of love, but what can avoidance do
And I've been gentle with my heart, but the agony of passion has defeated my gentleness

3. Blame me not for love, for the obscurity of truth excuses and refutes all blaming
Ask my tears, for they will tell what's in my conscience and admit my sincerity

4. How can I escape safely from love's snare, sound, when love owns my bondage
I've met my agony through eyes that taught me love's lesson by meeting them

5. And I've perfumed love with the pearls of my tears, and perfuming is a means to gain advancement
Perhaps one day I'll succeed in an intimacy by which I'll rule the emirate of love
