بلينا وسربال الزمان جديد

1. We have worn out, yet time's robe is ever new,
Is immortality granted to any soul?

١. بَلِينَا وَسِرْبالُ الزَّمَانِ جَدِيدُ
وَهَلْ لامْرِئٍ في الْعَالَمِينَ خُلُودُ

2. Adam passed in this life, father of mankind,
And all who come from his loins shall perish too.

٢. قَضَى آدَمٌ في الدَّهْرِ وَهْوَ أَبُو الْوَرَى
وَكُلُّ الَّذِي مِنْ صُلْبِهِ سَيبِيدُ

3. Then weep not for one whose day of death has come,
For death takes all and man shall fade and rue.

٣. فَلا تَبْكِ مَيْتاً حَانَ يَوْمُ رَحِيلِهِ
فَلِلْمَوْتِ مَا يَمْضِي الْفَتَى وَيَرُودُ

4. Seek not that which wakes you more while in this life,
For sure insight's gain has no increase thereto.

٤. وَلا تَلْتَمِسْ أَمْرَاً يَزِيدُكَ يَقْظَةً
فَلَيْسَ لإِدْرَاكِ اليَقِينِ مَزِيدُ

5. Let the revolving heavens run their course nor ask
If an elder triumphed or a babe withdrew.

٥. دَعِ الْفَلَكَ الدَوَّارَ يَجْرِي وَلا تَسَلْ
أَفَوَّزَ كَهْلٌ أَمْ أَهَلَّ وَلِيدُ

6. For what is this world, though grand its legend be,
But a hostel we come to and thence ensue?

٦. فَمَا هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا وَإِنْ جَلَّ قَدْرُهَا
سِوَى مُهْلَةٍ نَأْتِي لَهَا وَنَعُودُ

7. By it souls breathe their last, which are but winds,
And bodies moulder, which are but dust and dew.

٧. تَبُوخُ بِهَا الأَنْفَاسُ وَهْيَ نَسَائِمٌ
وَتَعْفُو بِهَا الأَبْدَانُ وَهْيَ صعِيدُ

8. So you who walk the earth seeking a far goal,
Hold back, for triumph from you is far and few.

٨. فَيَا ضَارِباً فِي الأَرْضِ يَرْتَادُ غَايَةً
رُوَيْدَكَ إِنَّ الْفَوْزَ مِنْكَ بَعِيدُ
