1. For a day like this the kingdom had long awaited,
So revel in it, an era whose hallmark is triumph.

١. لِمِثْلِ ذَا الْيَوْمِ كَانَ الْمُلْكُ يَنْتَظِرُ
فَاسْعَدْ بِهَا دَوْلَةً عُنْوانُها الظَّفَرُ

2. Egypt exulted after despair and was gladdened,
The common folk were jubilant, awash in ink.

٢. تَهَلَّلَتْ مِصْرُ بَعْدَ الْيَأْسِ وَابتَهَجَتْ
بِكَ الرَّعِيَّةُ حَتَّى عَمَّهَا الْحَبَرُ

3. With your victory you obtained what you had hoped for.
Still you rise to defend the nation and Islam.

٣. نالَتْ بِنَصْرِكَ مَا كَانَتْ تُؤَمِّلُهُ
لا زِلْتَ لِلْمُلْكِ وَالإِسْلامِ تَنْتَصِرُ

4. Justice extends its reach and injustice recoils,
Security hangs loose while fear rolls up its sleeves,

٤. فَالْعَدْلُ مُنْبَسِطٌ وَالْجَوْرُ مُنْقَبِضٌ
وَالأَمْنُ مُنْسَدِلٌ وَالْخَوْفُ مُنْشَمِرُ

5. An aid from God that shone after darkness,
As daybreak reveals what night had concealed.

٥. نَصْرٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَافَى بَعْدَ دَاجِيَةٍ
كَمَا تَبَلَّجَ عَنْ مَكْنُونِهِ السَّحَرُ

6. The people are intoxicated with joy and rapture,
Swaying as if the throngs are drunk.

٦. فَالنَّاسُ مِنْ طَرَبٍ فِي نَشْوَةٍ أَخَذَتْ
بِهِمْ فَمَالُوا كَأَنَّ الْقَومَ قَدْ سَكِرُوا

7. Surging to the summoner, across one land they flow,
And another gathers them in — throng upon throng.

٧. مُسْتَوفِضُونَ إِلَى الدَّاعِي تَسِيلُ بِهِمْ
أَرْضٌ وَتَجْمَعُهُم أُخْرَى فَهُمْ زُمَرُ

8. In every club an orator by his pulpit,
A gathering, and in each valley people dart.

٨. في كُلِّ نَادٍ خَطِيْبٌ حَوْلَ مِنْبَرِهِ
جَمْعٌ وَفِي كُلِّ وادٍ تَرْكُضُ الْبَشَرُ

9. The hearing relishes what the tongue dictates,
And the heart clings to what sight intimates.

٩. يَسْتَعْذِبُ السَّمْعُ مَا يُمْلِي اللِّسَانُ لَهُ
وَيَعْلَقُ الْقَلْبُ مَا يُوحِي بِهِ الْبَصَرُ

10. No wretchedness, nor harm, nor alarm,
No enmity, nor treason, nor caution.

١٠. فَلا شَقَاءٌ وَلا بَأْسٌ وَلا فَزَعٌ
وَلا عَدَاءٌ وَلا غَدْرٌ وَلا حَذَرُ

11. A feast that set the world aflutter with joy,
A blessing whose dues no human can pay.

١١. عِيدٌ تَهلَّلَتِ الدُّنْيَا بِهِ فَرَحاً
وَنِعْمَةٌ لَيْسَ يَقْضِي حَقَّهَا الْبَشَرُ

12. How can the world but glory in one whose rising sun
If it fell, none would remain for man and trace?

١٢. وَكَيْفَ لا تَفْخَرُ الدُّنْيَا بِطَلْعَةِ مَنْ
لَوْلاهُ لَمْ يَبْقَ فِيهَا لاِمْرِئٍ وَطَرُ

13. Rejoice, O children of the nations, for you have
In his justice, a haven with rivers flowing!

١٣. فَاسْتَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي الأَوطَانِ إِنَّ لَكُمْ
مِنْ عَدْلِهِ جَنَّةً يَجْرِي بِهَا نَهَرُ

14. He is the king whose enlightened rule, but for which,
Justice would have neither essence nor vestige.

١٤. هُوَ الْمَلِيكُ الَّذِي لَوْلا سِيَاسَتُهُ
مَا كَانَ لِلْعَدْلِ لا عَيْنٌ وَلا أَثَرُ

15. He came to Egypt and the world, though fraught with peril,
And no sooner appeared than the danger recoiled.

١٥. أَفْضَى إِلَى مِصْرَ وَالدُّنْيَا عَلَى خَطَرٍ
فَمَا تَمَثَّلَ حَتَّى أَجْفَلَ الْخَطَرُ

16. Successful in doing good, inventing
What minds fall short of grasping.

١٦. مُوَفَّقٌ لِصَنِيعِ الْخَيْرِ مُبْتَدِعٌ
لِمَا تُقَصِّرُ عَنْ إِدْرَاكِهِ الْفِكَرُ

17. He pours forth dew and showers, bounty and safekeeping —
Thus is time, with its weal and woe.

١٧. يَهْمِي نَدىً وَرَدىً جُوداً وَمَحْمِيَةً
كَذَلِكَ الدَّهْرُ فِيهِ النَّفْعُ وَالضَّرَرُ

18. He holds sway gently when wisdom fails him
Toward punishment, and pardons when able.

١٨. يَسْطُو بِرِفْقٍ إِذَا مَا الْحَزْمُ أَعْوَزَهُ
إِلَى الْعِقَابِ وَيَعْفُو حِينَ يَقْتَدِرُ

19. For might, if not wise, is but excess,
And clemency, if not from ability, but frailty.

١٩. فَالْبَطْشُ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ عَنْ حِكْمَةٍ سَرَفٌ
وَالْحِلْمُ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ عَنْ قُدْرَةٍ خَوَرُ

20. When he deems fit, the gleams of his wisdom shine forth
As sparks scatter after flint is struck.

٢٠. إِذَا ارْتَأَى بَدَرَتْ أَنْوَارُ حِكْمَتِهِ
كَمَا تَطَايَرَ بَعْدَ الْقَدْحَةِ الشَّرَرُ

21. Traces of his wisdom reveal his merit,
All things, in and of themselves, his traces show.

٢١. دَلَّتْ عَلَى فَضْلِهِ آثارُ حِكْمَتِهِ
وَكُلُّ شَيءٍ لَهُ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ أَثَرُ

22. When he smiles, the meadows of his pleasure bloom,
Generous, not every lightning flash brings rain.

٢٢. إِذَا تَبَسَّمَ فَاضَتْ رَاحَتَاهُ لَنَا
جُوداً وَمَا كُلُّ بَرْقٍ خَلْفَهُ مَطَرُ

23. Take hold of the kingdom, O Abbas, and remain
In a bounty unmarred by bitterness.

٢٣. تَملَّ بِالْمُلكِ يَاعَبَّاسُ وَابْقَ لَنَا
فِي نِعْمةٍ لَمْ يُخَالِطْ صَفْوَهَا كَدَرُ

24. You are of a lofty lineage in glory,
Prospering, with light and fruit made clear.

٢٤. فَأَنْتَ مِنْ دَوْحَةٍ فِي الْمَجْدِ بَاسِقَةٍ
طَابَتْ وَدَلَّ عَلَيْهَا النَّوْرُ وَالثَّمَرُ

25. I have strained my soul in praise, but cannot attain
Your sublimity — how can the moon be grasped?

٢٥. بَلَغْتُ مَجْهُودَ نَفْسِي في الثَّنَاءِ وَلَمْ
أَبْلُغْ عُلاكَ وَأَنَّى يُدْرَكُ الْقَمَرُ

26. So grace me by heeding some words
That, though poor in speech, are pearls.

٢٦. فَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِإِصغَاءٍ إِلَى كَلِمٍ
تُعَدُّ فِي النُّطْقِ إِلَّا أَنَّهَا دُرَرُ

27. I gave them your noble name — a raiment
That lent the world beauty and pride.

٢٧. وَسَمْتُهَا بِاسْمِكَ الْعَالِي فَأَلْبَسَهَا
حُسْنَاً تَتِيهُ بِهِ الدُّنْيَا وَتَفْتَخِرُ

28. When the tongue of thanks intones them, cities arise
And tribes stand alert out of love for you.

٢٨. إِذَا تَلاهَا لِسَانُ الشُّكْرِ قَامَ لَهَا
حُبَّاً بِذِكْرِ عُلاكَ الْبَدْوُ وَالْحَضَرُ

29. Still you are the hope to which hearts
Soar until the Trumpet is blown.

٢٩. لا زِلْتَ مَوْرِدَ آمَالٍ تَحُومُ بِهِ
طَيْرُ الْقُلُوبِ إِلَى أَنْ تُنْشَرَ الصُّوَرُ
