1. And a night with the brilliance of a shining cup
I attained in its pleasures all I sought
١. وَلَيْلَةٍ بِضِيَاءِ الْكَأسِ لامِعَةٍ
أَدْرَكْتُ بِاللَّهْوِ فِيها كُلَّ مُقْتَرَحِ
2. I revived it after slumber claimed it
With a maiden - had the sun seen her it would not have risen
٢. أَحْيَيْتُهَا بَعْدَمَا نَامَ الْخَلِيُّ بِهَا
بِغَادَةٍ لَوْ رَأَتْهَا الشَّمْسُ لَمْ تَلُحِ
3. So if you considered me with the cup going round
You'd think me a boastful king in revelry
٣. فَلَوْ تَأَمَّلْتَنِي وَالْكَأْسُ دَائِرَةٌ
لَخِلْتَنِي مَلِكاً يَخْتَالُ مِنْ مَرَحِ
4. And how could I not reach the celestial spheres
With the moon in my gathering and the sun in my cup
٤. وَكَيْفَ لا تَبْلُغُ الأَفْلاكَ مَنْزِلَتِي
والْبَدْرُ في مَجْلِسِي والشَّمْسُ فِي قَدَحِي
