1. O you who saw the gazelle wandering
With beauty on his pasture
١. يَا مَنْ رَأَى الشَّادِنَ في سِرْبِهِ
يَتِيهُ بِالْحُسْنِ عَلَى تِرْبِهِ
2. He sent his twigs to play
With the apples of his breasts out of self-conceit
٢. أَرْسَلَ فَرْعَيْهِ لِكَي يَعْبَثَا
بِأُكْرَتَيْ نَهْدَيْهِ مِنْ عُجْبِهِ
3. I endure disliked things for his sake
And spend money for love of him
٣. أَحْتَمِلُ الْمَكْرُوهَ مِنْ أَجْلِهِ
وَأَبْذُلُ الْمَالَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ
4. The blamer blamed me for him, even if
He saw guidance shorter than his censure
٤. قَدْ لامَنِي الْعَاذِلُ فيهِ ولَوْ
رَأَى الْهُدَى أَقْصَرَ عَنْ عَتْبِهِ
5. And can a person conceal his passion
After it dominated his heart?
٥. وَهَلْ يُطِيقُ الْمَرْءُ سَتْرَ الْهَوَى
مِنْ بَعْدِ ما اسْتَوْلَى عَلَى لُبِّهِ
6. The turning of the eye indicates
What the human concealed in his heart
٦. تَقَلُّبُ الْعَينِ دَلِيلٌ عَلَى
ما أَضْمَرَ الإِنْسَانُ فِي قَلْبِهِ
7. O may God forgive the eyes of the crazed
For they are the aid of fate in its war
٧. يا سامَحَ اللهُ عُيُونَ الْمَهَا
فَهُنَّ عَوْنُ الدَّهْرِ فِي حَرْبِهِ
8. Isn't it enough what its events pulled
Until it called the lion to its party?
٨. أَمَا كَفَى ما جَرَّ أَحْدَاثُهُ
حَتَّى دَعَا الْغِيدَ إِلى حِزْبِهِ
