1. The secret of my friend dies with me, as does his grave
A conscience, flanked by both of my sides
١. يَمُوتُ مَعِي سِرُّ الصَّدِيقِ وَلَحْدُهُ
ضَمِيرٌ لَهُ الْجَنْبَانِ مُكْتَنِفَانِ
2. And I will be asked, on the day of resurrection, about all I was entrusted with
Hearing and all that my lips uttered
٢. وَأُسْأَلُ يَوْمَ الْبَعْثِ عَنْ كُلِّ مَا وَعَى
سَمَاعٌ وَمَا فَاهَتْ بِهِ شَفَتَانِ
3. So I will deny it, from amongst what is in my scroll
And disavow him, when the two angels bear witness
٣. فَأُنْكِرُهُ مِنْ بَيْنِ مَا فِي صَحِيفَتِي
وَأَجْحَدُهُ إِذْ يَشْهَدُ الْمَلَكَانِ
4. And my sin in such denial will be a lighter burden
Than the sin of divulging it with my tongue
٤. وَذَنْبِي فِي ذَا الْجَحْدِ أَيْسَرُ مَحْمَلاً
مِنَ الذَّنْبِ فِي إِفْشَائِهِ بِلِسَانِي
