1. The world has distracted you from the hereafter
While it mocks you out of ignorance
١. أَلْهَتْكُمُ الدُّنْيَا عَنِ الآخِرَهْ
وَهِيَ مِنَ الْجَهْلِ بِكُمْ سَاخِرَهْ
2. It has deceived you while you
Hunger for it, worthless as it is
٢. وَغَرَّكُمْ مِنْهَا وَأَنْتُمْ بِكُمْ
جُوعٌ إِلَيْهَا قِدْرُهَا الْبَاخِرَهْ
3. The young man walks lost, with rotten carcass
In the folds of his cloak
٣. يَمْشِي الْفَتَى تِيهَاً وَفِي ثَوْبِهِ
مِنْ مَعْطِفَيْهِ جِيفَةٌ جَاخِرَهْ
4. As if in his pride he is a ship
Sailing in turbulent waters
٤. كَأَنَّهُ فِي كِبْرِهِ سَادِرٌ
سَفِينَةٌ فِي لُجَّةٍ مَاخِرَهْ
5. How many souls prided in their power
In the past, now gone and vanished
٥. كَمْ أَنْفُسٍ عَزَّتْ بِسُلْطَانِهَا
فِي ما مَضَى وَهْيَ إِذَنْ دَاخِرَهْ
6. And groups that boasted of their wealth
As if poverty could never reach them
٦. وَعُصْبَةٍ كَانَتْ لأَمْوَالِهَا
مَظنَّةَ الْفَقْرِ بِهَا ذَاخِرَهْ
7. They became pitied by those who see them
After reveling in ostentatious luxury
٧. فَأَصْبَحَتْ يَرْحَمُهَا مَنْ يَرَى
وَقَدْ غَنَتْ فِي نِعْمَةٍ فَاخِرَهْ
8. No gallant steed honored them anymore
Nor a lofty tent
٨. فَلا جَوَادٌ صَاهِلٌ عَزَّهُمْ
يَوْمَاً وَلا خَيْفَانَةٌ شَاخِرَهْ
9. Rather, the tides of time engulfed them
With valleys of misery ever-flowing
٩. بَلْ عَمَّ دُنْيَاهُمْ صُرُوفٌ لَهَا
مِنَ الرَّدَى أَوْدِيَةٌ زَاخِرَهْ
10. O people, fear your Lord
And dread the torment of God and the hereafter
١٠. يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ
وَاخْشَوْا عَذَابَ اللَّهِ وَالآخِرَهْ
11. You sit while misery stands
To serve you full cups of bitterness
١١. أَنْتُمْ قُعُودٌ وَالرَّدَى قَائِمٌ
يُسْقِيكُمُ بِالْكُوبِ وَالصَّاخِرَهْ
12. So wake from the heedlessness of passion
And take example from the greatest downfall
١٢. فَانْتَبِهُوا مِنْ غَفَلاتِ الْهَوَى
وَاعْتَبِرُوا بِالأَعْظُمِ النَّاخِرَهْ
