1. God spared the people of Mosul from harm when
An enemy came at them from the east, marching forth.

2. The ruler of the non-Arabs, Nader his name,
Oppressive and treacherous, violating pacts.

3. He captured the women of the settled folk in ruins and villages
With injustice, while all were embroiled in destruction.

4. And he drove off all the herds of livestock,
So today there is neither sheep nor goat left in the meadows.

5. So he besieged us for sixty grueling days
With battles in which communal duties perished.

6. So Al-Dustur fought him, and to our lands
Came Hussein with God's help, confronting him head-on.

7. He struck terror into the hearts of his soldiers,
And they fled, each back to his own abode running.

8. So when God removed their hordes from us
Through His grace, the fortunes of the apostates declined.
