1. Time brought you joy and sorrow
So be grateful and patient in your plight

2. How much reward patience brings
And gratitude yields growth

3. If you grieve what is lost
A loved one, a possession

4. Then seek solace for your grief
And bear adversity with resolve

5. O al-Mu'tadid, al-Mansur
You have secured survival

6. And with days accumulated
Honor and supremacy

7. For sorrow yields us
No joy, but only toil

8. You are blessed that death’s illness
Has wearied of a cure

9. So grieve, for that misfortune
Has pained the prophets too

10. And the highest nobles will perish
When Allah decrees it so

11. Praiseworthy is the guidance
Of a bride laid to rest

12. For a time she lived, and the water
Of Muzn was perfectly still

13. Then she passed, leaving behind
The sweetest musk's fragrance

14. She gathered piety, wisdom,
Virtue and intellect

15. She will sip from the cup
Of Kauthar’s sweet water

16. Where she will meet the righteous
The martyrs and the devoted

17. It was trivial what she endured
To become your ransom

18. Your loved ones are privileged
To live on, though death comes to all

19. So wear your deeds as a mantle
And drag prosperity as a cloak

20. And inherit your enemies’
Lifespans, and those of your allies
