1. It is fate, so be patient for what fate has brought
Patience in this is the trait of the righteous

2. You will have the patience of despair or the patience of contentment
So do not accept patience accompanied by sin

3. Beware that mourning lead not to temptation
For which the likes of your morality has no excuse

4. When bereavement saddens the sensible
He sees both bereavements leading to loss of reward

5. The real loss is for one who mourns the deceased’s reward
Not the deceased himself who has attained the grave

6. The life of people is a path to death hastily tread
In which they pace as travel is arranged

7. So O guide of the path, pull on, for it is
Either dawn guiding you the straight road or quicksand

8. In our equals there is a lesson, but we
Are tempted by hopes of wishes and thus fooled

9. When death made every long-liver’s abode short
Length or shortness of life is then the same

10. Have you not seen religion a castle demolished
With neither many allies nor ample aid defending

11. When power leaned to its second flank
And dragged behind it armies in defeat

12. That is injustice, but if fate had willed it otherwise
Lofty aims would be smooth and the path easy

13. When the steeds of the swimming camels stumble in the dark
Of a starless night that dawn does not pierce

14. Indeed the messenger hurried us with a call
Whose pain was bitter and untimely

15. Is there any soul in existence more prone to ruin
And more perilous hopes that time destroyed?

16. Happy is the belly of earth, a renewed companion
For a desolate place it deserted and the plains emptied

17. In pure white clothes, a radiant beauty
Her times glorified, her prayer niche her breasts

18. If she is mourned, the soul distances a precious one
For the body cannot rise up to remember and praise her

19. A steed whose piety seizes its secret
And good deeds elucidate its reputation

20. The veil of modesty is lowered from her
To raise the screen from her supererogatory prayers

21. By the cool whiteness in that soil
Her blessings during her time were green

22. On her is Allah's peace, seeking greetings
Its pardon-scented winds make it verdant

23. And the rain cloud promised that land
To weep in its soil and make its flowers smile

24. We are in your debt, for mourning was a rain cloud
Rising for us therein like the full moon

25. Are you not the one, if a matter is difficult
Whose face clears and chest expands?

26. You pride yourself on Eve whom people descend from
Without her, generation follows generation

27. The Prophet's wives are our mothers
Sheltering for ages in their chambers

28. You rewarded her well, so a caring mother
Whose son's every deed is righteousness

29. She wished to die in your lifetime after
Her hopes amassed like necklaces unstrung

30. As if ruin upon her is assured
If fortune favors her in you, it fulfills her vow

31. She turned away and left from answering her prayer
Precious treasures unmatched in treasure

32. With it blessings become perfect, wishes coherent
Afflictions averted, and patience awaited

33. So let not the world weigh down your wing after her
For whom of its afflictions you were solace

34. Still endowed with many coolness to your eyes
With them that family tie remains

35. You Bani Jahur are the sky of leadership
May it be prosperous, in it stars blossoming

36. You see fate strike with its right hand
And if fortune laughs, you are its smile

37. Yours are all gentlenesses of generosity as if
A sword whose sharpness has marked it

38. Clouds of blessings lightning and pouring down
Its flowing stream and flashing lightning good news

39. When you are mentioned and your merits probed
Reports are adorned and news magnified

40. Your ways exemplary, your guidance approval
Your attainment a flood and your doctrine a palace

41. How many a questioner in absence you answered
There interceding hands and impair numbers

42. Giving without favor, wisdom without passion
Clemency, not weakness, honor without arrogance

43. Favors fulfilled themselves in you
Our praise to Allah and thanks are due
