1. Does your heart not flutter excitedly
When lightning flashes and flares?

2. It illuminates the edges of the darkness weakly
And kindles a fire within your being.

3. It traveled on a night that was generous and pleasant
So its intense darkness became daylight.

4. I stayed in it, and my friend's house, Sa'd,
So we praised them both, the bliss and the house.

5. They erected its canopy skyward
With lights blossoming and thriving.

6. It had become familiar with comfort until
It forgot and showed no estrangement.

7. The loveliest scene my eyes have witnessed
Does not cease, recalling it stirs emotion.

8. The bride's shyness on her cheek
Draws a blush of redness.

9. And her groom's wrist is bound to a wrist
As if two tender branches entwined.

10. Lanterns lit like stars above them
I imagine it a revolving universe.

11. We drew near a revered priest
Who had taken the cross as his emblem.

12. Standing in awe, we listened to his recital
From the Bible, whispered or aloud.

13. And he affirmed the marriage bond accordingly
As Christ had advised.

14. We said "Amen" to his words
When we heard the invocation uttered.

15. The wedding concluded successfully,
We bid farewell to gravity and dignity.

16. We freed our souls to indulge themselves
Competing in chivalry and restraint.

17. We continued sipping cups
Of wine, juice, or any drink.

18. Many were stripped of inhibition
By the rapture of song and music.

19. Faces were veiled but fondness was evident
In the glances of those present, bewildered.

20. A slim graceful figure approached gracefully
Surpassing the virgins in beauty.

21. She leaned her neck and we adored her
Like a marble doll framed in pearls.

22. Her waist was clasped in the right hand
And she rested her left arm on the lowered shoulder.

23. She had attached her right hand to the left
You could not see them parted.

24. They danced to rhythms on the dais
In movements you could not compete with.

25. As if the tapping feet were fire
Not giving my heart any peace.

26. At times they roused the ground fiercely
Like a lively colt racing the desert.

27. At times they shortened steps intentionally
Like a fallen chick traversing pebbles.

28. When she arched her neck it seduced
Turning away then glancing back.

29. Do not ask about the poets around me
Their poetry gushed forth vigorously.

30. Souls shaken with musical ecstasy
Pouring out words that intoxicate the wakeful.

31. O night when the fellowship
Of Muslims with Christians was manifest.
