1. If you saw the wine cup and the radiant face
You would not blame the one who disobeys advice

2. She left a kiss for me in her cup
Its taste and aroma pleased the wind

3. The decanter sent intoxicating breaths
So our cups became rainbows

4. Like sunbeams on polished goblets
Did it unleash light or fire in the cup?

5. It exhaled hot sighs and wept
When it leaned towards the lip of the cup

6. Like two lovers, a mouth met a mouth
The breaths grew heated and tears flowed

7. It choked on a sob when it recoiled
From the lip of the cup, salty with tears

8. It fluttered its soft lips like a wounded bird
Whoever saw it thought it a slaughtered bird

9. It is like embers releasing wounds
So leave the water to soothe its fervor

10. Ibn al-Muzayyin desired it but it was shy
It would not let him touch it without a veil between

11. The two clarities blended and hid together
Thus water veils the sun like a cloud

12. Have you seen fire with white smoke above
And the sun veiled by mist?

13. It smiled until its dimples appeared
Do not think that what floats is foam

14. It became like the sky with Ibn al-Sama
A star appears and a shooting star darts across

15. From its breaths in the cup there wafted
A scent that gives life to the despondent spirit

16. Before mixing, it tells of gentleness
Like the tears of the Virgin weeping for Christ

17. We lifted it up, toasting each other
Then we clinked another cup against a cup

18. And swore an oath of secrecy
No breath would ruin the secret

19. In the name of love it was a draft
That closes the eyes and excites sneezes

20. Then we bent over and it flowed smoothly
Pleased to be kissed after thirst

21. It sprouted a rose on each cheek
And cast sleepiness into each eye

22. Knots loosened from the tongues
Thus it makes an ineloquent man eloquent

23. It aroused feeling and awakened passion
Through it the atmosphere became delightful

24. It made the world worthless to its drinker
To him it was not worth a sip

25. Without the cup, it would be meaningless
The world spins on the palm of its Tenderer

26. Each time he kissed it, he became enamored
Deeming it small and great

27. What brings comfort, tranquility and joy through the wind?
He closed his eyelids, seeing his dreams unfold and inspire

28. Visions are magical fortunetelling
So take your cup as a soothsayer and diviner

29. O infant of the cup, I ransom you as a brother
Kinship and womb-relations through the suckling of the cup

30. The wine has made us brothers
With Communion wine and spirit and blood

31. What mother before it
Gave her sons all this, what mother?

32. It shoulders from all it suckles
The infant's troubles even if he is aged

33. It pampered him until he ended up
Enjoying coziness on the carpet

Its light cascading like pouring rain

41. When she moves quickly in her walk
She overflows like a torrent pouring strongly

42. A dress that tempts with what it conceals
Increasing the beauty of what it reveals

43. It left a delicate impression from her eyebrows
As a sword that is finely sharpened passes

44. On her eyelids, from their kohl
Darkness amid which a star blinks

45. The redness on their joined lips
Is a heated kiss that traced the coal

46. On her hands and feet
Are wounds that bled and tears that flowed

47. Have you seen ivory patterned
Or the red glow of ruby or lit candle?

48. The birds of her jewelry fluttered in her scruff
Seeking refuge in her breast, a restful place

49. Her mirror leaned over from so long
Facing the bright flash of her beautiful face

50. The wine tilted with their bending
Who has seen a branch leaning over a branch?

51. Passion is dominant and unruly
And prohibition is overcome by the blond sorceress

52. Her temple was disturbed when it saw
His head resting between her breasts

53. His intoxicated eyelids could barely lift
From the heaviness of the drunkenness

54. O the two intoxicated, tenderly embracing
Neither aware what the other was saying

55. Their cups were empty, so they clung together
Then got up, for an instant, to leave

56. Like the scale, neither side tipping
Unless a side was heavier and tipped

57. After much sweet talk and whispers
They reached a room where passion reigned

58. The ghosts rose from their slumber
When a light was lit in the lantern

59. The statues were naked
And the dolls and flowers, ornament and bouquet

60. The door closed its mouth behind them
As they became a secret hidden in the heart

61. The diwans had closed their eyelids
When curtains were lowered over them

62. The chairs stretched out arms
And chests to receive the loved ones

63. The redness of the light throughout
Announcing it had an amorous eyelid

64. And they, in the blaze of yearning
For the scent of eternity in that bed

65. Whoever sees the blossom in her nakedness
And the one she desires on a soft ample bed

66. The amorous play tossed and fluttered
And the bed creaked and rattled around them

67. The lamp surrendered its eyelid to pleasure
And fell asleep despite moans and sighs

68. Each of them wished if they remained
In this sleep till the Day of Resurrection

69. Two lovers do not care if they embraced
A bed they descended into or a tomb

70. So forgive, O God, the errors of passion
And accept sincere repentance
