1. What can his tongue do if it disobeys him?
Tears are more eloquent when his speech fails.
١. ماذا عليه إذا عصاه لسانُه
الدمعُ أفصَحَ حين عيَّ بيانُه
2. These tears are a poem that flows
From the eyelids of those who shed their blood.
٢. هذي الدموعُ قصيدةٌ جادتْ بها
للباذلين دماءَهم أجفانه
3. Their breasts surged with the burning anguish
In his heart, and its streams are their melodies.
٣. فصدورُها جاشَتْ بها حُرَقُ الأسى
في صدرِه وَرويُّها أرنانه
4. Today (Al-Hussein) at Karbala reminded us
Of women wailing over him bitterly.
٤. اليوم ذكّرنا (الحسينَ) بكربلا
تبكي عليه مجندلاً نسوانه
5. And (Uthman) the martyr returned
Drenched in his blood, with the Quran crying for him.
٥. وَأعاد (عثمان) الشهيدَ مضرجاً
بدمائِه يبكي له قرآنه
6. By my father and mother who sacrificed their souls
From every steadfast pillar of calamities, their heavens.
٦. بأبي وَأمي الباذلين نفوسَهمْ
من كلِّ ثبْتٍ من الخطوب جنانه
7. I ransom them with my blood though my blood falls short
Of their merit, it is but a small gratitude.
٧. أفديهمُ بدمي وَقلَّ لهم دمي
لكنّه لجميلِهم عرفانه
8. The journey of the cause has long been oblivious
Until their blood inscribed its title.
٨. سفرُ القضيةِ لم يزلْ غفْلا إلى
أنْ خطَّ بالدم منهمُ عنوانه
9. Indeed, the martyr atop the trunks is nobler than
Khosrow when his palace embraced him.
٩. إنَّ الشهيدَ عَلَى الجذوعِ أجلّ من
(كسرى) إذا ما ضَمَّه إيوانه
10. My homeland, its independence sanctified in existence
Our martyrs and their blood are its sacrifice.
١٠. وَطني تَقَدَّسَ في الورى استقلالُه
شهداؤنا وَدماؤهم قربانه
11. Its atmosphere was fragrant with their souls
And its plains were stained with their blood.
١١. فتعطَّرتْ بنفوسِهم أجواؤه
وَتخضَّبتْ بنجيعهم قيعانه
12. The tears of the bereaved were pearls in its crown
And the blood of those we mourn, its coral.
١٢. دمعُ الثكالى كان لؤلؤَ تاجِه
وَدماءُ من نبكيهمُ مرجانه
13. And I wondered at those who attempt to demolish it
When its pillars were built on skulls.
١٣. ولقد عجبتُ لمنْ يحاولُ هَدْمَه
وَعَلَى الجماجمِ وُطِّدَتْ أركانه
14. If some gray hair falls from its locks
Then its youth will wash away their disgrace.
١٤. إنْ زلّ بعضُ الشيب من قطّانِه
فلسوف يغسل عارَهم شبانه
15. A homeland whose pillars (Abu Al-Hafs) erected
However much the means to heaven built its structure.
١٥. وَطنٌ (أبو الحفص) أقام عماده
كم نال أسباب السما بنيانه
16. (Saifullah) was one of its swords,
And (Abu Ubaidah) the trustee was its safety.
١٦. قد كان (سيف الله) من أسيافِه
(وأبو عبيدة) الأمينُ أمانه
17. Watered with the blood of the honorable, its roots
Why should its branches not flourish?
١٧. رَيانةٌ بدمِ الكرامِ أصولُه
لِمْ لا تكون بواسقاً أغصانه
18. O sham, did you give fatwas, and who but you
When the sun of time shone on us and strengthened its flags?
١٨. أَفَتى الشآمِ وَهَلْ سواك لها إذا
شمسَ الزمانُ بنا وَعزّ ليانه
19. In your hands, the liberation of countries is a trust,
Upon you and none other lies its guarantee.
١٩. بيديْك تحريرُ البلادِ أَمانةً
فعليكَ ليس عَلَى سِواكَ ضمانه
