1. Glory be to You, O Allah, You are greater
Than what any contemplative mind can encompass

2. The wise one is confused, the onlooker strays from You
And the thinker's arrow misses its mark

3. The farthest the intellect can go is bewilderment
If it were proper for the creation to imagine

4. A lord, as they conceive You, most able
And that lord wished to be conceived

5. Who You are, he would fall short of reaching
Admitting incapacity to grasp the truth

6. (Moses) at the noble Mount spoke intimately
(And the Son of the Maiden), Your throne rumbled

7. (And Muhammad) on the night of Ascension
They gleaned but little of Your blazing light

8. As faint light gleams from darkness
If I were to look with the guidance of prophethood

9. And be led by the trustworthy Spirit’s guidance
And think with the wisdom of philosophers

10. And feel with the taste of the people of spiritual path
I would not succeed in finding access arduous

11. It is Your affair to depict and originate
You have a sky-blue page from Your heavens

12. And dawn is its crimson border
And the full moon over its forehead is haughty

13. While the stars on the page are lines
The shining sun bowed to You prostrating

14. And its forehead reddened from deference
And the sea, stirred at its sides, foaming

15. And its wave sighing turbulently
Spends the night standing in prayer to You and remembering

16. (Saturn) with the fetters of abasement tamed
And thunder growling with supplication and glorification

17. And lightning, a wink for the darkness, glimpsing
And from the clouds tears pouring down for it

18. And the wind sighing and blowing from fervor
Your book of poetry brimming with gems

19. A collection of necklaces of mankind’s masterpieces
The body an unceasing chant

20. And the soul indeed the soul an innovative meaning
Continues attracting minds and dazzling

21. Is our soul a wind that blows and stills
Or an ember within us that kindles and dies down

22. Or a visitor wavering between ardors
Drawing near to the bodies’ innermost being and distancing

23. A body it strengthens, and another it abandons
What limit is there to life’s variety of forms?

24. One alive by it bestows, and another draws from it
And the body gains life even if it slumbers

25. Like water, it remains water even if frozen
And the earth shapes and melts like pliable gold

26. Discernment, intuition, reason
And love are signs, they transcended and have seasons

27. As for Beauty, it is a representation
Drawing meaning and esteem nearer

28. An attribute from which the essence shone
Has one attained faith who did not reject?

29. The eye does not sleep if it did not slumber
One who did not struggle knows not the meaning of humility

30. And none savors water but the thirsty one
And dawn emerges through the darknesses

31. I have been granted knowledge beyond what I anticipated
And I have failed to express what I know

32. And the one who aims to depict me will surely err
If I express a meaning and render it incomprehensible

33. It is by taste, not words, it is expressed
From the unseen world of particles to the celestial sphere

34. Whatever inhabited it, flew therein, or treaded it
Be it human, jinn, or angel

35. All have borne witness that sovereignty is Yours
Each by Your command categorical and made subservient

36. If Gabriel were to fly this sky
For the duration of time, he would return saying

37. There is no way to the end or the way out
Of His kingdom; the King is truly majestic

38. It is inconceivable; the matter is not one that can be gauged
Nothing of creation's secrets is hidden from You

39. You originated it and to You its secret essence returns
To guide it is in truth to compel it

40. In Your hands are the leading reins of kings and their forcing
The arrogant have become humble to Your might

41. Your blessed names are more majestic and loftier
Than what the pursuer can grasp of their meaning

42. The subtle and skillful have confounded me
And the soul recites the Merciful and aspires

43. Almost melting and dripping from yearning
