1. Doing good and kindness, if intended
Are more lasting and praised are the youth's deeds

2. But I understand the meaning of life only as
Helping the weak and saving those who stumbled

3. And people, unless they comfort each other, are
Like the displeased, even if called human

4. If your heart was not softened by affection
For the poor, then replace it with a stone

5. Giving aid is the title of life, so if
You lose it, you are dead though buried

6. My religion whose rituals I revered
And every person's religion who was moved or felt

7. Lowering the wing for the wayfarers when
My arrogance against the elderly increased

8. A sight is burdensome with blessings when
My neighbor stayed up nightly due to his troubles

9. I never cease to think that the eternal paradise
If I alone kept it, would be hell for others

10. My people: Their supplication was mean
If others specifically get sustenance

11. The charitable even if their qualities tired them
And the protectors even if others betrayed

13. He says: while thirsty and nearing demise
Whereas his friend is quenched and at ease

14. If my companions lacked water I would give them
My blood and make no excuses for my illness

To those whom hunger pierced their children

17. His standing at her door bent over

18. O daughter of chastity and sister of purity
I almost worship purity and dusk in you

A virtue the female surpassed the male

20. Nothing appeased my defiant soul except
