1. Sulayma had decided to move on
So where do you propose we go?
١. سُلَيمى أَزمَعَت بَينا
فَأَينَ تَقولُها أَينا
2. She had said to the girls of her tribe
Who had lovely, radiant faces:
٢. وَقَد قالَت لِأَترابٍ
لَها زُهرٍ تَلاقَينا
3. "Come, the life for us is good here
So come, let us move here."
٣. تَعالَينَ فَقَد طابَ
لَنا العَيشَ تَعالَينا
4. The night grew dark
And no eyes could see,
٤. وَغابَ البَرَمُ اللَيلَـ
ـةَ وَالعَينُ فَلا عَينا
5. So they came to her hurriedly,
Moving rhythmically,
٥. فَأَقبَلنَ إِلَيها مُسـ
ـرِعاتٍ يَتَهادَينا
6. To a place like the waving sands -
The dwelling place adorned.
٦. إِلى مِثلِ مَهاةِ الرَمـ
ـلِ تَكسو المَجلِسَ الزّينا
7. To cheeks so soft -
We drew near and offered greetings.
٧. إَلى خَودٍ مُنَعَّمَةٍ
حَفَفنَ بِها وَفَدَّينا
8. They wished, those maidens,
And we became what they wished.
٨. تَمَّنَينَ مُناهُنَّ
فَكُنّا ما تَمَنَّينا
9. While this was happening, I was welcomed -
They bid me enter and greeted me.
٩. فَبَينا ذاكَ سُلَّمتُ
فَرَحّبنَ وَفَدَّينا
