1. The disease has sunk its claws into my heart,
And the most painful of illnesses is the malady of the heart.

2. Woe to my eyes! What sin did they commit,
That they suffer sleeplessness after sleeplessness?

3. The days assaulted me until they exhausted me
With calamities that melt even the heart of stone.

4. Who will save me from my fear and loneliness,
From an illness that has caused me to lose my reason?

5. It is as if daytime is a dark night,
Or as if I am in the darkness of deep pits.

6. Every light in my eyelids is darkness,
Every companion is difficult to reach.

7. My strength has weakened, and what patience is left for my affliction
Increased by worries - the most wicked provision.

8. When the air is covered with clouds,
I call out, "Fair weather, do not torment my heart!"

9. Misfortunes have toyed with me as if I were
A ball in the hands of violent players.

10. My eyelids are like someone lost
In the darkness of a black night.

11. Whenever sorrow besieged them,
The birds of joy scared it away.

12. How many nights have I spent tossing and turning,
While my heart burns with embers and thorns?

13. I watch the star that is covered
With clouds more solid than poles.

14. It has no companion to cure my grief,
No friend to quench my ardent heart.

15. My enjoyment was like a prison,
Or as if I wander in every valley.

16. In my affliction, I have never tasted
The sweetness of life, deprived of sleep's taste.

17. How can my eyes bear sadness
When death lurks around my bed?

18. The specter of evil did not watch over me
Like parting with my beloved friends.

19. Fate struck us apart and we separated
For a period devoid of settlements.

20. The homes came between us and meeting
And the succession of hardships, O what a succession!

21. The weather continued its rain for a month
Until even stoic souls complained.

22. Thunderbolts alarmed us with wrath
And we were bored of staying in every valley.

23. O God, bless those who kept the covenant of my love,
The generous visitors and caregivers.

24. They helped heal my heart
And they, despite the distance, are its strongest pillar.

25. Had anyone else abandoned me,
I would have seen hell beneath my pillow.

26. Truly, nothing is more devastating than
The absence of loved ones, and the abandoned patient is the most wretched of servants.

27. So if, after my demise, I recover,
Then my recovery is due to the generosity of those absent ones.

28. And if I come back to life, then my life
Would be from my Healer, the Almighty Lord.

29. In sickness, I had a precarious state,
But beyond sickness, I have the strongest pillar.

30. May God reward them the best of rewards
And may they attain all they desire.
