1. They opened the sky and chased away the eagles
And rode on the surface of the air like horsemen

2. The air bid farewell to its glory and tranquility
When they made it a racecourse for their horses

3. The wind's reins were loosened for them
Until it became gentle and submissive

4. Praise be to them when they unleashed
The sailing vessels, giving them free rein

5. When landing, you would think them lightning
When ascending, their wings like scales

6. The birds' shape tells of them, but they
Have a mightier wing and stronger wing bones

7. If the young eagle tried to catch up with them
It would return humiliated and weak

8. Do you not reckon them when they flew with it
Like lightning at times, arrows at others?

9. Their wings they do not fold up
Until they are balanced with the air

10. When the domes of clouds arose and it glided by
The eagle halted opposite it, mortified

11. I have never seen a more wondrous scene
That captivates hearts and dazzles minds

12. I saw brave Iderin soaring
Like an eagle swimming in the sky proudly

13. Above his vessel which he moves
Flapping underneath him like a flutter

14. When it was time to leave, I heard from
Its belly what stirs melancholy

15. The groans of an afflicted one, distressed by misfortune
Sparks igniting in his ribs like fire

16. Until its furnaces were heated red hot
It sped like an enraged lion in the desert night

17. They said the carpet of the wind is a myth
Yet they witnessed it plainly before their eyes

18. Who would have dreamed that the layers of the sky
Would someday contain inhabitants?

19. Who would have reckoned that the airborne expanse
Would one day become a home for mankind?

20. The earth did not fulfill their desires
So in their daring they built themselves new homelands

21. Lower your wing, O eagle who
Ruled the heavens with your might for ages

22. You used to claim your rule was eternal
With no man encroaching on your domain

23. Yet here are the vessels sailing
High above bearing riders

24. Let not confusion take you at what happened
For God granted Adam the authority

25. Where can man flee, for they
Tore through the sky and tamed the universe

26. You had no fear of challengers in your sanctuary
Until you saw man in your realm

27. Your days are over, O eagle, your rule
Which human hands demolished and razed

28. And an era has passed in which you were invincible
Flying across the heavens unfurling your wings

29. O East, why so dormant while the West
Is at the peak of vitality, spreading civilization?

30. Do you not see them performing wondrous feats
At which the wise stand perplexed?

31. Each miracle we tend to think
Sorcery, and deem its creator a devil

32. But no, there is no magic here, rather
Knowledge gives birth to wonders enthralling

33. A toast to your chest, O France, for it
Is a draught nurturing chests with knowledge

34. What invention were you not the mother of
Or did not perfect with utmost skill?
