1. Behold a good morning, O land of promise
And relate a tale of a life of ease and comfort

2. Take your ease, take your ease, O land
Only he who sees you at ease can live comfortably

3. And hold your beloved dear, whose constancy
As long as you remain, is but in tears magnified

4. Behold, he who loves and knows what I have known
Sees in you, before this day, a dumb love emboldened

5. Behold, none who sees me here with you today will see
What was, is or will be, the like of what

6. Remember and forget not the square spring
And square youths to us by you are marked

7. Behold, speak not of the beloved, but inform
And give a greeting of peace or singly greet

8. Speak you, though like me asking be more apt
And like you answering, even if I were mute

9. Where are they whose threads I left, leaving me
Conversing the days, a fervent lover

10. Where are they, whom you covenanted
By you today, no forgetfulness for them finds refuge

11. Where is their journey, where did they intend?
And where is their span, where did they aim?

12. Did they pass the covenant you covenanted?
Or change in their ways ashamed you?

13. If not from ignorance, no excuse you have
If not from concealment, for you hellfire is stoked

14. So I came when I saw its silence
Upon the heart, upon the heart silence imposes the enamored

15. With my words, patience, and O my heart, you were not
To the mute of youths more rightful, and seemlier silent

16. So it said: where is patience, and the most bitter patience?
And turned to the spring with questioning engraved

17. Behold, O spring, the answer is incumbent
Upon you, so of the beloved answer and gain

18. Speak, speak, for silence is for he who would be seen
Speaking, but speaks not well, to speak, speak

19. Or describe her to me as she was described
Describe to me lands she roamed and intended

20. And steady my heart nearly burnt whole
With passion and passions burning a combustible

21. So it said: marvel not, but learn
Happy, seen, be not an opponent

22. Affirmed by traits and the graceful depiction
Of the beloved, that you be successful and opposed

23. With a beloved sun surpassing sun at dawn
With a moon surpassing moons she outshone

24. And a houri whom no match in glance is found
Nor scattered smile that can be imitated

25. A branch on flexing shoulders, curled and sloped
Outstretched, with cheek dripping beneath a crown

26. And a gazelle's neck excelling in beauty
And breast wherein two pomegranates are formed

27. She has an upper arm, that if beheld, worshipingly
One would become her servant, and her aide

28. Her wrist, wherein is softness, and palm
Most delicate, palms and wrist

29. And slight hips beyond description at her waist
And buttocks visions deter the resolute

30. As if the night upon her were draping, though she stood
In her abode like the rising sun in the sky

31. She gives drink of limpid rain with wine
And after sleep's diversion, the purest water

32. With musk and camphor, and the scent of clove
Her touched garments exude, sniffed

33. And a lover, when drawn near her, for him
Remoteness with bliss, drunk, she makes covet

34. But she, how many anxieties below her level
Perplexed by the flock of sand grouse

35. Dense, like a mirror, some think
The atmosphere with her like a clogged atmosphere

36. With her, smooth-skinned camels, deem her
Chaff the journey of the emaciated dispersed

37. And reckon the sailor's plank, if she disturbed
Like lines and a tablet atop lines marked

38. And her terrors lean to cover he who walked by her
And walked with her, you see him troubled

39. She has no peer among peers, so alas
The coolness in her the cold can withstand if camping

40. Think not the blazing hot amidst her
Equals the stoking of hellfire

41. Realms of smooth plains, and the smooth
With her, when the landmarks of affairs are seen perplexed

42. If this be so, can you convey to me for her
Dishevelled hair, and plaits closely braided?

43. Unruly, unkempt, indecent, exposed
From the most splendid, splendid ladies

44. With what select, choice depiction you described her
Describe purely, by selective describers honoured

45. Submissive between humiliation and company
Her pasturing of the meadows she frequents

46. So that tends for her by duty, and that for her
Tending duty, the handler exalted

47. Until for her among the mounts, a vessel
Like your anxiety, if resolving upon cares determined

48. You would think, looking at the death from the disobedient
Though you disobey her not if dying you determined

49. As if the daughters of thought scattered upon her
When atop her they ride, ordered you would find

50. And seemly whatever she reveals through her carriage
And appears what is hidden, measured and aligned

51. And resolved with a lord, no lording his abode
For the pleasures of cooing, amusement, and food

52. For its owner, unyielding in matters, and she was not
To fill from it the breast sweetly and bite-sized

53. He sleeps preoccupied with worries, people around him
And for her in private no security he feels

54. If he worries, no young gazelle dissuades him
Nor knows what in the heart overnight fretted

55. He loves what from glory his world is built upon
Not like one whose building is ever demolished

56. And company noble, glorious, connected
Generous, protective, dignified, revered

57. Vigilant, prudent, valiant and forbearing
Wary, secretive, high-minded, not doubtful

58. If the drowsy in knowledge spoke
Or of religion, or others, him you would find prominent

59. Adapting them if considered of sound opinion
And resisting them if ignorant and blameworthy

60. All of them in counting exonerated
And among the people none deemed beyond them advanced

61. The generous, generous among most generous
As if for the virtuous, the virtuous they serve

62. A generous one, generous among most generous
Of noble roots the joiner conjoined

63. He is the succor for the pillars, and the pillar singularly
He is unmatched among succors, absently adjoined

64. Absent of absents of the absent, in scene
Through him and by him whoever wills witnesses marked

65. A secret to the secret of secrets clearest by him
And most hidden of the witnesses' witnessing, wisest

66. A spirit to the spirit of the spirit in spirit scenting
By it and by it the sweet basil and spirit perfected

67. And lights of the light of the light overflowing in his light
And his lights the illuminator's lights assimilated

68. So his reverence is the light of elation, and his knowledge
Removes the ignorance that masked and gloomed

69. A light for piety, hope with acceptance
And asceticism, fear with certainty and forbearance

70. Intellect and surrender, pardoning creation
And knowing the love of God, and kind

71. The cosmos yield to him in all their matters
And intimacy to the Master, breasts and kneaded

72. When the cosmos arrived, or pressed their matters
He deters them, resisted, demolished

73. He hinders whoever hinders from him, taking
Provisions, so he befriends them with misery, imposed

74. His gifts the God sharpened, so sharpened
The hearts of enemies, confined, hardened

75. A protector, the furthest reaches threading, cloaked
In extending misery to the envoys’ misery, honoured

76. And acknowledging glory, enduring and struggling
With a folk, most wretched of folk, peaceful

77. By it the eye as the eye delineated
And as the safeguarding eye, the eying deterred

78. Onto the prosperous pours his rain, whoever
Took refuge in his creation wherever

79. Attaining thereby ample livings and others
And feeding dreams you wish imagining

80. If panic consecutively takes its panic
Consecutively by his side the panic is broken

81. In the struggle of want, when time comes
Preparing pots, settled, ignited

82. A pasture for him the expanse of demise knelt
With aged praise, howling winds calmed

83. No sight wanders astray, nor transgresses
To it an inheritance from whom excellence demarcated

84. And from his light creation, if it escapes
Does the sun deny, but who darkness embodied?

85. So its immoralities he saw his Lord
For it influence, seeing goodness determined

86. And its disobedience vigorously thrusts
To well-pleased, well-satisfying, imposed

87. By the favour of the God of the throne, favoured his favour
Swords to virtues, seven engraved

88. Virtues, outpourings, alerted
His attributes the sea’s overflow flooding

89. Every sea of the unknown he traversed
And from objection to whom is revered refrained

90. To God is the sea of permission, a sea to his order
And the sea of attributes, the senses from them refrained

91. A sea to a secret, then intellect rooted
And a sea to a soul, a sea to heart and reasoned

92. A tablet and throne, then chair and their veil
And a sea to spheres, so from them advanced

93. An encompassing sea and angels supreme
And a sea to strikes, jinn and venomous

94. And a sea here to secrets, though their secret
And of paradise and hellflowed and crept

95. A sea to Him of encompassing knowledge our Lord
By it the pillars drowned, in it divided

96. Its essence in God remains submerged
Its appearance amongst people divided

97. You see the guest and poor of status and high estate
And all people of needs have gained balm

98. So that for him property, and that ennobled
And that for him condition, and that learned

99. And that for him exoneration, and immunity seen for this
And that ruling, and that judging assumed

100. And that for him allotment, provisioning his fortune
And that for him arrow, with arrows attained

101. That for him dread and trembling seen for this
And that for him bestowal and width for the hopeful

102. And that you would see withdrawal, chancing upon his heart
And that you would see abandonment, repelling peaceful

103. Tolerating kindness beautifully, and greeting
If no lawfulness in it he saw marked

104. If it be, the Qur'an molded his manners
And the excellence of natures came to be embossed

105. If the beneficent showered favour for its clouds
With flood and torrent obtained pouring coagulated

106. Or the surging drew purification for its brilliance
With a splendid, splendid, illuminating moon darkened

107. Pillar of the religion, as long as tradition lasts
Hope of hopes of the people coagulated

108. And neither aged, nor youthful is he
For he is the legacy of ancients, stars

109. Inheriting him lineage, then lineage endlessly
And bequeathing him branch, completing branch
