1. Before today I was thirsty for water
From the glorious name I sought grandeur

2. I would traverse the lands for it
East, west, north or south seeking knowledge

3. Many would tell me “That’s it”
In Arabic accents and some in lexicon

4. But I never found one to quench my thirst
Or give drink to my heart from the water

5. I found in it all precious gems
Shining beautifully with order and rhythm

6. Until I came upon the fresh abundant sea
Encompassing the scattered pearls with harmony

7. It comes in foreign tongue and is recited in Arabic
To explain it or at times reversing the order

8. But no authentic narration remained
Transmitted reliably or permissible to touch

9. I hold dear to the impenetrable fortress of our savior
The honorable book to its destiny I submit

10. Take it always, do not let it go
Reciting it you will live glorified

11. And say O my God give life to our Shaykh
And grant the composer of verses a beautiful end
