1. Memories aroused the slumber of my eyes,
As tears began to flow.

Until it starts its descent at dawn.

4. I turn my eyelids searching for a people
Whose lands have become desolate since they left.

5. I cry while stars twinkle above
As if oceans could not hide them from me,

7. I called you, Kulayb, but you did not answer.
How can the barren land answer me?

8. Answer me, O Kulayb when others blame you,
Grieving souls will always defend you.

9. Answer me, O Kulayb, for only you they blame,
The clan of Nizār has lost its brave knight.

10. May rain water you, for you were rain itself
And joy when hope seemed lost.

11. After you, my eyes refuse to dry their tears
As if tears flow till seas run dry.

12. You used to dream of men, forgiving their deeds
Capable, yet you refrain using your might,

13. Fearing to support those who can’t defend themselves,
I saw being near you as the greatest profit,

14. More than what traders gain.
Do not go too far, soon all will face

15. New nations as planets orbit the sun.
A man lives among his father’s clan,

16. Soon he will be where they are.
I see that life is fleeting,

17. Like borrowed items that must be returned.
When you died, it was as if flashes

18. Of light burst forth beside me.
I turned and my sight darkened,

19. As the lips grow pale from drinking.
I asked the living where they buried you,

20. They said: “at the base of Mount Ḥayy lies his grave.”
I traveled hastily from my land to you,

21. With no sleep or rest along the way.
My she-camel walked past a grave

22. Where heroes and knights lie.
Near the loveliest homelands untouched

23. By dishonor or shame from others.
Would you march with me, O Kulayb, when

24. The cowardly flee, aided by retreat?
Would you march with me when

25. The lips of warriors are grazed by the swords?
I say to the Tribe of Taghlib, victory is yours,

26. Yours shall be triumph.
My brothers perished one by one

27. For a cause that devastates the hopeless.
Take my lifelong oath -

28. To leave towns and wander the land,
To shun pleasures and drink bitterness from a cup,

29. To wear no borrowed clothes.
I'll never lay down my armor and sword

30. Until the dawn takes over the night.
Unless the clan of Bakr is destroyed

31. Without a trace for eternity.
