1. Beneath the stones lie resolution and resolve,
And an aged man slain by the dancing swords.

2. Killed by ignorance, and I am not pleased,
Or we destroy both Qais and ignorance.

3. And the burning within us scatters sparks,
The sparks reach both the young and the swift.

4. We killed with it yet no vengeance was sought,
Or the swords encompass the aged in slaughter.

5. Peace is lost unless you return Kulayb,
Or you take the government by force.

6. Peace is lost unless you return Kulayb,
Or the morning inflicts bereavement on Shayban.

7. Peace is lost unless you return Kulayb,
Or the enemies attain disgrace and humiliation.

8. Peace is lost unless you return Kulayb,
Or you taste calamity and sorrow’s draught.

9. Peace is lost unless you return Kulayb,
Or you turn away from virtues, isolated.

10. Or I see killing has claimed men,
Who did not turn away from ignorance and folly.

11. Beneath the stones and soil, of it,
Lies a noble hero, exalted and glorious.

12. By God, O Kulayb, it saddens us
To see my determination weakened and dimmed.
