1. Shall I gather my companions at dawn’s charm
Yet feel no separation from you that alarms?

2. None can equal your beauty’s striking halo—
The crescent moon yourself you embalm.

3. Shall I give the Bani Jusham tribe the news—
Most pleasing and sweet the tidings I exhume—

4. That Majid, son of Amr the shield did seize
And sincere at dawn’s light proved in the bloody gloom?

5. His brave squadron attacked most fiercely
As their arrows found their foe’s targets to consume

6. May God reward the prominent Yazeed with good
And may he enjoy beauty and grace to assume

7. From Ma’khadh Ibn Kalthoum, son of Sa’d
Descends the bounty of goodness to resume

8. With the clan of Qurran and Sayyid’s line
Who launch spears when called to overcome

9. Yazeed puts the enemy host to flight
To satisfy and water his steed, making it bloom
