1. Glory cannot protect one who does not guard it
And honor is built by the noble and high-minded

2. And realizing kingship lies in serving the people
Kingship is not easily sustained

3. Praise belongs where there is patience
Blame belongs where there is weakness

4. Pride lies in piety, not in wishes
Remembrance belongs to those who are not lazy

5. Favor is attributed to the generous
Evil is the trait of the stingy

6. True wealth belongs to those
Who bear heavy burdens, not those who carry them

7. A promise is kept by those
Who show strength when faced with frightful trials

8. A man who does not stand firm in battle
Will be brought down by the lowest of men

9. Glory does not accompany a wicked man
Just as the lofty summit is not climbed by the unworthy

10. I told the virtuous to have patience
For the beacon of glory fails only the weak

11. But they were disgraced when they saw
The fires of strife lit in every valley

12. War is war after it flares up
Its flames cannot be hidden or doused by the sword

13. Today I do not know if they have seen
Or if they still waver and the matter remains ambiguous

14. They are many if shown as many
They are a multitude if faced by a multitude

15. Even if they broke their vows to me
And abandoned their allegiance out of fear of enemies

16. I will not neglect my duty
Especially if fate has wounded me with immense sorrows

17. Do not blame me, even if you see
No justice but the past that first grieved you

18. Or that I did not try as hard as I could
Until even the defiant submitted and the widow was empowered

19. Do you think fate can bend my resolve?
By God, only the foolish would think so

20. As long as I live, know
That I am the righteous one who does not falter

21. God is enough for me, then enough for me
The lofty goals of his father do not fail him

22. He strives for the heights as though
He swiftly reaches the loftiest peaks

23. From his mother he hopes for success she grants
Or if afraid, reassured, she does not disappoint

24. Whether he makes a promise or a threat
His promise and threat come easily

25. If only my eyes could see him
Or if my hand grasped his right hand, ignorance would be shamed

26. That is the son of Ma'n whose days
Were filled with glory, al-Abbas the brave, you who ask

27. O Sultan, faith has become
In a state that cannot be beautified

28. How can we be content when faith is disjointed from us
One part has passed and today it languishes among us

29. Is it from weakness, O Sultan, or ignorance of us
Or is there no decisiveness among us?

30. Or the violation of the honor of our maidens
Prevents justice from being established among us?

31. Why, when I called the people to glory
Did none respond except with what cannot be borne?

32. I called out among the living until I was told
"We hear you but do not know whom you call"

33. What can Qahtan do if it had
A more just leader than Arrahee

34. To erase its shame and build pride
But it has been disgraced while you are its hope

35. You are the refuge, the expected resort for
Qahtan and the tallest, straightest branch

36. You whose favor has spread through the land
Some on horseback, some on foot

37. So allow the request of your past guest and stand
For the request of a guest who has come to your abode

38. Lift your spear for the true religion
It is oppressed, alas, despised, neglected

39. Save the people of Qahtan and their tribes
And flood them with justice that includes all

40. March armies or spread peace
Throughout the land, for fortune is coming

41. Make haste with us before death takes us
For your world is but remembrance and death hastens

42. Do not listen to the words of the feeble-minded
Whose opinions are weak and foolish

43. Know that I seek help and am confident
In God, for He is the best helper

44. This message comes from an imam who composed it
In wonderment at what the journey confrontation revealed

45. He does not seek a dirham or dinar even if
You bestowed gifts, for you are ever generous

46. But he hopes for an army to revive
The exemplary righteousness of the best Prophet

47. May Allah bless him, for he shone like the full moon at Badr
And dawned like the bright morning stripped of its veil
