1. Let go of this coquetry, for youth is not eternal
And cease your play, restrain yourself, and compose your face

2. You want my love through humility and lowering yourself
And you hope that I fulfill your desires, but I will not

3. I am not one to be seduced by a rosy cheek
Nourished by the softness of fleeting youth

4. A stick when she draws near, a rock when she pulls away
Erect when she approaches, flaccid when she leaves

5. Except that I have a faith that prohibits me
From sin, so restrain your playfulness and compose yourself

6. It is forbidden for me to respond to youth
No matter how alluring your body appears through your clothes

7. But ask me for whatever loan or gift you wish
For I am no miser with gifts or loans

8. Generosity and charity are but a trade
That increases one's wealth, stature, and honor

9. The wise see prudence in clasping
One's money, while generosity lies not in clasping but in giving

10. You see that when I am generous, you become generous
And when I withhold, the horizons of the earth constrict for me

11. My tribe boasts of my stature when I am generous
And suffers harm from my stinginess when I withhold

12. With generosity I gained my kin's pleasure
And with generosity I gained strangers' lowering themselves

13. People are nothing without others bearing
Each other's burdens, some excelling over others

14. I continued to overlook my cousin's wrongs, though our states
Are good and even if he does not overlook mine

15. And I maintain ties with my kin when he severs them
To please the quarrelsome and forbid hatred

16. If I do not protect my neighbor with all propriety
With which I protect my honor—for I have no honor

17. If I do not console a brother in his destitution
Neither the living nor dead will mourn him

18. If I do not tend to a friend's rights when
He is absent from my eyes with loyalty and sincerity

19. My brother, what ties you to me without kinship
Is that your kindness has tended to me

20. If you do not ward off blame and harm from me
Then cease tying your cousin with rejection

21. You raced on the foot of hatred, then bit me
With the fang of backstabbing—the epitome of biting and racing

22. With what crime or sin did I wrong you
That you harbored hatred of me?

23. I devoted myself to you generously
Hoping to please the displeased

24. Yet I, loyal, hoped to gain
Closeness to you in times of joy and sincerity

25. My reward was that every calamity
That befell me was a fang biting my side

26. If this pleases you, I will be patient out of nobility
Though by God this does not please or satisfy me

27. If it is not founded on any shortcoming
Your words are generosity and what is past is past

28. Peace be upon you, I will not try to blame you
In any case, even if you were bent on debasing me

29. I have not roused anyone in all the earth
To the extent of Islam in length and breadth

30. May God reward Muhammad for me with paradise
The blessed scion, son of the pleasing redeemer

31. For he is the pure, the sincere in his faith
And he is the protector who protected familial ties and religious duties

32. He saw victory for the truth as an obligation so his
Horsemen approached in the moment of victory and preparation

33. And I conclude my words with prayers upon the one
Who has the praised station in the vast field
