1. My eyes shed tears of agony, and my heart is aflame
The tears of orphans, and the smiles of tyrants

2. I was burdened with carrying jugs and spears
And shedding blood is the excess of grave sinners

3. I was disturbed from my beloved, not out of boredom
I abandoned my kin, the appearance of deniers

4. And it led me in commands and prohibitions my determination
My resolve and what insights I was given

5. It was dear to stay put in my home
Remaining still, though against my will

6. Going and coming heedless of his religion
As camels go grazing with no purpose or aim

7. So I girded myself with the strength of a man who
If he sighed, the winds of resolve would blow above storms

8. I crossed hot sands and faced their harshness
And endured the hardness of tumultuous seas

9. One day in Nizwa amassing troops
Another day secretly seeking soldiers

10. The vermin may annoy the captain
Those seeking glory and heroic deeds

11. For no youth attains glory and heights
Unless he tastes exile and estrangement

12. And dust does not touch his proud face
Nor poison infect him among the evils

13. I say this as time has inclined in its circuit
Yet I did not submit to the circuit of fate

14. And afflictions befell me with their unrest
Yet never did I lose patience even an hour

15. For if decadents ridiculed me, such is their way
With prophets and the choicest messengers

16. What prophet or imam has passed and not
Been harmed or earned the contempt of mockers?

17. Was it not said to the Chosen "You are a sorcerer, a charlatan
You are a liar, a magician, O magician!"

18. You own no treasure or ornamented house
No garden - rather, you are the lowliest of clans

19. Yet this did not harm him in his Lord's being
So too all this is not harmful

20. My friend, I have come to stay in a noble place
Among honorable people, the best of clans

21. The children of Naim, sons of Ashtar
An assemblage of the greatest eulogizers

22. And they rose to what I sought and girded themselves
Not making excuses by the garb of avoidance

23. And I will continue until God opens by what
I hope for, then I will cease to censure them

24. So set out to your two excellent ones and wander
To their settlement, guided by brilliant stars

25. Until you alight at the one whose fame has spread
And whose aid encompasses every land and home

26. Abu Al-Fadl Abbas ibn Mu'in ibn Hushab
My brother in generosity, master of rulers, Amir

27. Extend to him my letter, and convey
To him my greetings and thoughts

28. For Abu Al-Fadl is the one I hoped for
In uncertain times and grave dangers

29. Abu Al-Fadl, I did not stand for leadership
Or kingship - no, by God, matters of pride

30. Abu Al-Fadl, the greatest merit is that
Done for God's sake - so give victory and aid

31. Abu Al-Fadl, religion has died and guidance faded
And God's houses became dens for frivolity

32. Abu Al-Fadl, the fasting month has become days
For drinking wine and embracing singing girls

33. Abu Al-Fadl, the pillars of pilgrims are neglected
And God's remembrance abandoned at the holy sites

34. Abu Al-Fadl, the banners of wrongdoing are raised
And tyrants of corruption lie in wait

35. Abu Al-Fadl, whoever sleeps while innovators
Have enslaved free women stirs no eyelid

36. Abu Al-Fadl, chaste women were brought out as booty
And auctioned in markets to every trader

37. By the Lord of maidens white as seclusion, their kiss
Like pearls, kohl of their eyes like stars

38. With smooth neck and wavy hair
Crimson on bright cheeks

39. They were put up for sale, their faces downcast
As the circles of fate turned against them

40. So rise, O Ibn Mu'in, as supporter for the All-Powerful
And roll up your sleeves - the merit of the honored

41. Perhaps you may meet the captive women and find rest
Upon the thrones of Heaven, atop high seats

42. For nothing aids a man like God's victory
Just as nothing surpasses consciousness of God in worth

43. With you is the like of seasoned warriors, who if
Drawn on spear shafts, would ignite like lightning

44. Increasing the perspicacity of the sage Arrahi
And sharpening the minds of the heroic men

45. And send prayers upon the Chosen One for revelation, Ahmad
God of creation, in the evenings and dawns
