1. She saw me gloriously, so her eyelids
Shed tears like the dripping of clouds.

2. She wished, out of kindness and compassion,
That the pain of parting would cease for a heart

3. Full of love and tenderness.
I bid her farewell as one resigned,

4. Though urged to depart by a herald's call.
When our palms met, her weeping

5. Made the women around her weep too.
She knew I aspired to a feat

6. That would make my status revered in future years.
So I said, as she tried to dissuade me

7. And sought from me a sympathetic pause:
"May the good spring from your tears of sorrow,

8. But do not destroy yourself with grief for a beloved friend.
Consider me now a guardian of the first verses

9. Of the Chapter of the Spider, standing firm.
How can my flesh rest when

10. I see faith oppressed? Who now will defend sacred ties?
Shall I be content with a transit camp,

11. Where all passers-by are driven like flotsam?
Woe to me, if I do not strive with my soul,

12. Or die in battle, or live humbled among the clans!
I will attain my hopes only through resolve

13. That defies the deadly strokes of Fate.
To part from friends, to spurn the sweetness of repose,

14. To face perils and forgo sleep,
This frightened the ignorant, when they said

15. The task before us was a turbulent sea.
As if a youth aspiring to jihad

16. Would be daunted by a raging, frothing trial!
We shall cross it, God willing, supporting His faith,

17. Borne up by a swimmer's skill and strength.
We shall press through mountainous waves,

18. Surging onward to join our brothers with high resolve,
Each one determined as a champion,

19. With warrior strength and purposeful knowledge.
They established truth after your frail ones,

20. O Shudad, fell wounded by spear thrusts.
By them our battered faith is revived,

21. And the gardens of tyranny and corruption laid waste.
Dogar son of Ahmad shall know,

22. And every foe descended from Mahdi,
When we descend upon them with forces

23. That shake them like flashing lightning bolts,
That we have a strong defender of glory and faith,

24. A party of God, advancing irresistibly.
God is pleased with Ahmad's protection

25. When furies are unchained above the earth.
God is pained if shameless acts begin

26. To drag their skirts across holy grounds.
The faces of the wicked shall grimace and twist

27. When seized with a violent punishment.
The hands of the wicked shall fail and fall short

28. When their perilous state is proclaimed.
The pole of faith shall return to its niche,

29. And the people of corruption get their reward.
Glory belongs only to God and His messengers,

30. And to the faithful who often read the Book.
O you sorrows, you are our refuge,

31. And those before you were solace for past generations.
Remember how often, when injustice

32. Oppressed us - who can recount it? -
We came with no supporters, faction or

33. Weapons, wealth, force or means.
None but you offered hope

34. To dispel the darkness of those glooms.
So do not let our enemies gloat over the faith

35. After we have surrendered to it, fearing no mans threats.
Many a feeble soul have we left behind

36. Who hopes for triumph but fears the pain.
Bless Ahmad, who will intercede on Judgment Day

37. For common folk when the Books are spread open.
For all time the winds have never ceased to blow,
