1. With white domes and brown horses
Whenever the rain stopped, warriors roared

2. Builders from the ancestors of Sa'd ibn Khuzaymah
With keen sense of smell and bright faces

3. Their tents are pitched around the villages
Guiding the lost traveler on his journey

4. They say, while the horizons are obscured by clouds
As if there are dust-colored cloaks over the lands

5. If affluence does not make one thank their Lord
Blessings are not complete, no matter how abundant

6. Life is but borrowed finery
Though praise lasts forever

7. Even if they march without Yusuf's banner
The Most High says: "To Him belong creation and command"

8. You see a sea of long coats of mail
Borne by determination and preceded by victory

9. A leader in whom the guidance has its glory
The world obeyed him and disbelief was humiliated

10. The smile of vengeance beamed
After frowning for so long it did not frown again

11. He established safeguards for peace around his enemies
So no suspicion can be raised or fear created

12. Travelers transmitted news of his generosity
When they saw him, news verified the reports

13. A man whom the vast earth cannot contain
The attribute of forbearance that does not constrain the chest

14. What is Amr worth if his valor is weighed
And they describe him as cunning? But Amr is not so

15. May God preserve the sharpness of your sword in battle
When the thick of war makes them quiver with fear

16. When cups of misfortune circulated among their heroes
They swayed as if drunk although they tasted no wine

17. And which heart of theirs does not flutter
When your red banners flutter in battle?

18. They stretched out their palms to God pleading
And God said: “The matter has been decreed”

19. Cloaking them in the blessing of your pledge
Through which Islam was made safe and the veil lowered

20. They came to you adorned like bridal carriages
Stallions of pride, beautifully adorned mares

21. Clear-coated steeds, smooth in gait
Sturdy in body yet gentle in step

22. Fiery when embroiled in raid by night
Charging with stars shining like flowers

23. Lovely smooth mounts, magnificently equipped
Beauty and pride show in their trappings

24. I imagine them, when they relayed the news
Their necks tilted, their eyes dazzled

25. Then they swarmed to the view of the apostate
Satan seduced them; they were fooled

26. But your Lord will aid you with heavy assistance
His custom with your people is help and victory

27. As if you have readied every brigade
Spoils white, horses brown

28. When darkness lifts, green carpets struggle
Over the ground, from the blood their wounds spilled

29. Over them, every seasoned warrior
Wears a veil; to him sweet and bitter are equal

30. They shook the horizon until its landmarks
Became empty wastelands and its fertile lands barren ruins

31. Surely one who seeks to cross the sea is lost
Not knowing you own ten-fold that sea

32. One who boasts of the light of two lamps
When the sun and moon are less than your face and the full moon!

33. You met the month of fasting with righteousness and piety
Wishing that month would never end

34. Then it bid farewell, doubled for what you deserve
Great gifts and ample reward

35. The fasting month then greeted you clothed in splendor
In it glad tidings and good news appeared

36. You came to pray, well pleased
Praise and remembrance of God magnified

37. The robe of honor was filled to overflowing
The army’s trains dragged over the ground

38. None were adorned on any day of display
As if flowers were envious of flowers that day

39. Arrows circled under flags
Bowstrings taut for battle and to smite

40. When they notch arrows and strap on quivers
You see the Turks swarm through Egypt

41. When it concluded, you celebrated a joyous feast
Gifts of which there was no count came to you

42. Still you rule a strong and aided kingdom
For which the world is awed and time bows

43. When we praise you in verse
Can sand be counted or drops of rain limited?

44. Rather, we bring what we are able
He who strives is owed excuse
