1. Patience, except for your love, is praiseworthy
The matter is difficult and the goal is far

2. O moon of Hijaz whose light
Illuminates the dark, starry night

3. I made your being the core of my heart so that
Oneness with you saves it from the hellfire of passion

4. And I made your love my creed and law
Which I cling to, O the best thing to cling to!

5. If martyrs attained the Gardens of Highness
And have bounty and eternity there

6. I bear witness that your nearness is a paradise
Truly, and I by passion am martyred

7. O you who resembles in weakness of strength
A waist, an enchanting glance, and promises

8. My body and your glance both fell ill
And Allah knows which one is most missed

9. If you deny what I suffer from passion
Then my anguish bears witness, and my tears testify

10. I have busied myself with loving you, preoccupying me
Neither justice stops me nor disapproval

11. The morning breeze blows gently so I hold back from it
While it is cool and pleasant

12. And I avoid the shade of the trellis
Though its arcade is spacious and long

13. O days of the tearful eye, how much pearl
Did you force it to shed, hoping it will return

14. Your soft glances flow gently at night
Stirring in me intense longing for you

15. How many blissful hours with you I spent
He who gets them will lack no wants

16. Flirting with the bending branch, playing
As the morning breeze makes it sway

17. Sickness is scattered in its glances
And magic is knotted in its eyelids

18. I conversed with it and drank the excess of its wine
While the glance from its cups is measured

19. And I almost decided to quench
The fires in my chest with it as fuel

20. And reveal a secret in my heart, keeping it
Safe inside, for silence has a bolted, blocked door

21. How many pearls did speech scatter in necklaces
That were strung together for the union of love

22. And if the watcher spied on us, no watcher
Could stop us, for chastity has a defender

23. Were it not for your love, O noble one pleased with me
Existence itself would not exist for me

24. Alas! O pillar of the living who does not retaliate
My heart by what it encounters from you is a pillar

25. If you turn away, allow me to return the greetings
Or if you are absent, send your image back

26. O son of the most sublime, generous Hashimites
Valor is submissive to them, and so is generosity

27. Gently, for the passion has possessed a love-mad heart
Gentleness is counted among your traits

28. Your beauty reigns over our souls
So rule as you wish, for we are your servants
