1. He said to me while tears flowed down
In streams on cheeks furrowed and hollow,
١. قَالَ لِي وَالدَّمُوعُ تَنْهَلُّ سُحْباً
فِي عِرَاصٍ مِنَ الْخُدُودِ مُحُولِ
2. "What ails thee?" I said, "May God give thee health
From my weeping and my sorrow!
٢. بِكَ مَا بِي فَقُلْتُ مَوْلاَيَ عَافَا
كَ الْمُعَافِي مِنْ عَبْرَتِي وَنُحُولِي
3. My eyelids are sore from ceaseless weeping
And my eyes from tears cannot follow."
٣. أَنا جَفْنِي الْقَرِيحُ يَرْوِي عَن الأَعْمَشِ
وَالْجَفْنُ مِنْكَ عَنْ مَكْحُولِ
