1. If his abode appears and his house is demolished
His news takes the place of seeing him

2. Divide your time into weeping or taking heed
This is his soil and those are his traces

3. We are indeed souls that know right from wrong
Though its habit is denial

4. It has no hopes except for lies
How often has allurement deceived its seducer

5. Be not fooled by any fancy adornment
Soon its shame will be disclosed

6. Whoever makes peace with this life is befriending a snake
So let him beware how it bites

7. How can one fleeing escape
When he is busy night and day seeking it

8. Two armies of Blacks and Romans have encircled
The battlefield so their fleeing appeared

9. The summoner calls us and desire tempts us
Like one whose insight has betrayed him

10. The encounter draws near though the distance is far
And its circumstances change with one long-lived

11. Beyond our heedlessness is a final gathering
This is His Paradise and that is His Fire

12. Where are the kings, sons of kings, and who, when
Hardship seeks them out, finds its circumstances easy

13. From every full moon of darkness and sun of daylight
And clouds of generosity with unceasing rain

14. When he invades, blood is his banner
And when he brandishes, neighing is his trumpet

15. This is the Prince of Muslims and one whose glory and pride
Ran its course erratically

16. This is Abu Al-Hasan ibn Uthman whom
Honorable traits adorned and pure ancestry blessed

17. The enemy of fate assailed him but did not avail
When its perils surrounded him, his supporters were of no use

18. After he opened conquests and subjugated the settled lands
Until its regions submitted

19. After his clouds of generosity poured forth during downpours
And his spears fulfilled vows

20. After his swords quenched thirsty chests
And his blades cured diseased innermost hearts

21. O chaser of cowardly hyenas, his glory sets them aright
And his vales make them upright

22. And intimacy urges him to take heed
For so long has its lesson been neglected

23. Stop by the sacred valley and sanctuary
And head to a shrine whose neighborhood does not disappear

24. And the abode of righteousness whose sanctities were made great
And whose visitors' attire competed in humility

25. Its rites are fulfilled there and its corner is wiped
Forever, while its blood is shed for tears

26. How many fierce lions unsheathed their claws
Unless it was to whiten their nails

27. And the abode of superiority which the hand of fate assailed
While its crescent of perfection was constant

28. It is as if their corporeal forms, when they appeared,
Were verses of admonition arranged in sequence

29. A garden with aromatic air and birds singing melodies
While its trees swayed and branches dangled

30. Evergreen in grant, the water of life quenched it
And the fence of majesty towered over its treasure

31. By Allah, what his clothes contained
Of pride was enough to make it soar

32. And many a riding animal whose destination
Was made for it while its valleys monopolized

33. They made the breeze their guide when the signposts disappeared
So its fragrance guided them

34. Its pacts thrived under the best caliph
Whoever visited him, his burdens were forgiven

35. One whose generosity rivals the clouds
One whose dignity rivals mountains

36. If he wanted to hunt stars, he would attain them
Until reaching their height made him able

37. His dirham with which he ascended
Would be a celestial moon or golden sun

38. Or if he feared the birds of the air because of his assault
Their nests would expel him from their corners

39. King of Kings of greater essence than one cloaked in piety
His mantle fortified chastity and girded his loins

40. King of Kings and elite of elites whose
Lights were known for their duration

41. O You who relieve afflictions with a heart that
However it contends, its perils are humiliated before it

42. O You who give charity generously in the darkness of night
While its veils are lowered

43. O You who care for orphans, injustice and the harms of fate are averted from them
With Your call, whether from Your right or left hand

44. O You who by God's inspiration, your meditation illuminates the darkness
And your watches shine at dawn

45. O You who crossed the dense army as if it were
A sea whose waves clash with ships

46. You gathered people but their number cannot be estimated
By the plenitude of leaves, nor besieged

47. O You who cloaked pages with the light of guidance
The robes of beauty glittered with their lights

48. So it is as if their folios are whitened
Pearly dawns when their leaves are opened

49. And as if that ink is from the darkness of night
And as if its starry flowers are its pages

50. O You who preceded caliphs in nobility
And favors, so that none can match Your dust

51. O You who belittled ordeals when
Its illnesses multiplied and evils collided

52. And Who faced testing with steadfastness that
Adorned the origin of guidance with its buttons

53. Pure gold would not be derived from base soil
Were it not for solidity and purification

54. The pacts of the kingdom that once were guided
By Your sun now weep for You, O luminous moon

55. The schools of knowledge for which You brought to life
A protective tradition for success now mourn You

56. Sleep peacefully and enjoy the company of your grave
For your neighbor has attained felicity

57. And know that your throne has been assumed
By one whom, if given choice, You would select

58. One who strongly brandished the bucket of Your approval
Until its fruits drew near his hands

59. You left Abraham, the best successor
For the Muslims, whose position is now settled

60. Your Master is his Master, your justice his justice
Your adornment his adornment, and your house his house

61. Your approval his obedience, your righteousness his habit
And his prayer for Your supremacy and plea for forgiveness

62. As if you did not disappear into dust
And as if its duration aided his endurance

63. The rain departs then after it, flowers of the meadow
Revive through its blessings

64. It comforts you that the perfect full moon which
Clung to perfection so its waning is not feared

65. From Your essence its crescent gained its light
And by the axis of Your path its wall stood straight

66. You endowed him with Your approval during your farewell
While terror furiously raged in its seas

67. And you left him in God's hands for safekeeping
So His decrees guaranteed to preserve him

68. You were compensated for the Abode of Immortality with a dwelling
For immortality, beneath which rivers flow

69. And kinship to your son maintained the pact
To choose what pleases You, wherever it is found

70. Let not the enemies gloat that you are in soil
For death is a judgment whose shame is not feared

71. When the foreordained occurs in the full moon of night
Can its significance be ignored thereafter?

72. Creation is a harvest destined for reaping
When ripe, can its plucking be delayed?

73. To death, when it claims life
And to old age, when its excuse is prolonged

74. These nights, whenever a man stumbles
One day, refuse to be called his stumbling

75. Fate does not refrain from its havoc
Most wretched by it are the noblest

76. What of Caesar when his palaces abandoned him
Of no use were his heights or lowness

77. What of Chosroes whose walls did not protect him
One day from fate's circling revolution

78. Ask about Al-Nu‘man, confused when he
Loved the tender cheek, his passion

79. The red tent pained his refuge
While his beloved embraced ruins and blossoms

80. Fate frowned upon the Abbasids so
Its joy or cheer are no longer hoped for

81. And the Bani Umayyah, which made them taste
A draft whose bitterness spread among them

82. The Bani 'Ubayd, when their kingdom worshipped
The Sultanate of Egypt and its regions submitted

83. Fate betrayed their traces and destroyed them
A revolving sphere spun over them

84. The pleased one is pleased when they are recited
One day, and their superior recognizes their merit

85. The spark of passion lit the fire of his passions
And when I strike the flint, its sparks fly

86. The enemy refrained from eulogizing you a while
So the fool exposed himself while your affair was concealed

87. Today punishment befalls every unruly drunk
Whose reckless youth is fleeing the young fleer

88. And so did Al-Husayn meet his fate without being mourned
For eras that passed after him

89. It is owed by one whose tongue can form poetry
Or whose abode can strew it, that he frequent his site

90. None remain to prevent the people of need
So today, one who gives abundantly benefits

91. As for prolonging and elaborating, it is really
Trifling which its scattering belittles

92. Excuse your people's stand at the abode of one falling short
A servant pardons his sin by admitting it

93. One who wants something he cannot attain
His falling short is close to his attempt

94. And if a man fulfills what is within his capacity
Blame falls away and limits are observed

95. One who wanted something unattainable
