1. O lovers of others besides the One, the Eternal
Your madness, by God, baffles the wise

2. You go mad for what perishes, leaving behind torment
That tortures the longing soul after separation

3. And binds the soul whose life is
Dedication of bodies to the pure spirit

4. So neither has it succeeded in obtaining whom it clung to
Nor did its capital remain to benefit it

5. Separation, grave,断绝, darkness
Deprived me, protecting one, of attaining happiness

6. It seems to me after the veil was lifted
A victim of intense sorrows, burning with passion

7. Turning its palms tied with a connecting thread
To sevenfold veils

8. So do not feed it poison in honey, out of misguidance
For that is a poison without antidote

9. According to what it earned, it hastens to its abode
Either in abundant reward or in perdition

10. After separation, it has no stratagem
Except regret that makes the deep fountains of the eyes flow

11. If its grief extended to the horizon
Sorrow would melt between cheek and neck

12. So be serious, for the matter is grave, and roll up
Your sleeves with excellent effort or reforming morals

13. Do not let its passion off its reins
And inspire in it a flash of truth

14. Gently instill in it meaning, and awaken
Its insight after sleep and drowning

15. However much it awakens, open to its consideration
The gates and locks of closures

16. Explain the end of the transient, be gentle
With its sick morals, with the gentleness of compassion

17. If it gets drunk and loftily disregards
The reality of the Cup-bearer and knowledge of the Pourer

18. Prolong its strolling in the garden of beauty
Until ecstasy rises within it on its feet

19. And let the flame of passion carry it on its folds
To ecstasy in the course of symbols and tastes

20. Until it alights with its provisions
At the abode of divine manifestations and witnessing in full

21. And it perishes when it witnesses through its witnessing
The transient has perished and the Eternal remains

22. Thereupon it finds life purified of shadows
And enjoys the fountain of life in sipping

23. Wondrous indeed is the allotment of sustenance
So do not dismiss request, O Best of Providers
