1. The truth rises while falsehoods sink,
And God is not questioned about His rulings.

2. What was or what will be,
Is like the highest cause, so how can it be caused?

3. He is the existence that sometimes gives generously,
What satisfies souls, and sometimes is stingy.

4. Ease comes after hardship,
Patience leads to impending relief.

5. The one prepared for what he hopes for is successful,
"Tie your camel and trust in God" is enough for you.

6. Whoever the times require his good fortune,
And the sword does not fail to reach the dodger.

7. O Muhammad, praise be to you,
A habit glorified among all peoples.

8. Your good fortune is assured without contention,
A contract under the rulings of destiny, affirmed.

9. The noble morals and propriety belong to you,
The ultimate refinement is reflected in you.

10. Dignity is yours when mountains quake
And the highlands crumble into hills.

11. The bright forehead and fine manners are yours,
The glances of perfection focused on you.

12. You are the light, and any light is but darkness,
You are the sea, and any sea is but a stream.

13. When you are remembered, it is as if
The blowing winds stand still in their blowing, and the clouds halt.

14. Who can properly describe your glories?
Your qualities are far beyond any imagination.

15. By God, no praiser does justice to your right,
By God, no words can fully articulate your praise.

16. Seek perfection for what you are able, for
Even full things diminish with time.

17. Time has repented to you for its wrongs,
And God commands repentance and accepts it.

18. If the past brought evil,
Let the future that pleased you intercede for what came before.

19. God has made you guardian over His servants,
When He chose you, a never-to-be-displaced rule.

20. When the divine supports you with His victory,
And destines goodness for you, who then can forsake you?

21. So go forth when you attack, every palm is calloused,
And strike, every limb made strong.

22. If you summoned the winds to raid,
The eastern wind would carry out your raid.

23. If you sought help from meteors,
The fully armed stars would fight for you.

24. Glory to Him who through your ascension split open the dark,
And restored the necklace that had been broken.

25. Entities almost deny their senses,
And early foretokens are ignored.

26. The trembling earth spins and its people
Are tossed by the wind of torment and shaken.

27. Whoever dies, dies an inglorious death.
Whoever lives is corrupt and misguided.

28. No pledge of allegiance saves, no covenant protects.
Religion and world are a mixed-up mess.

29. You have blocked from their horizons those who would be guided,
And barred from their authority those who would be just.

30. Now when the sinner recoils in his sin,
Surrendering, disavowing his misdeeds.

31. Include in your forgiveness he who transgressed or sinned,
And follow your way which is best.

32. Guard the protected realm, your glory protects it,
Seek widespread goodness, your fortune is coming.

33. Be steadfast, God's victory is a banner over you,
And good fortune upon you a trailing robe.

34. Terror goes before you, followed by legions,
From afar they feel it, though you are far.

35. God's spirit carries out His judgement through you,
The noble angels descend to you.

36. Ishmael knew not the gift you gave him,
If only he had sense to perceive it.

37. A blessed comfort, a shady canopy,
Its greenness glistening, water ever-flowing.

38. Well-fed, well-clothed, your provision sustains him,
Relieved of burdens too heavy to bear.

39. The devil of delusion seduced him
To a hopeless quest, though wants are easily fulfilled.

40. Through it he seeks a high place,
Beyond what his mind could hope to attain.

41. Soon you let him taste, then restored him,
To the abyss of tribulation, an evil place.

42. Another draft you served to Qais after him,
God gives tyrants respite then seizes them.

43. Treacherous character is the worst trait, condemned.
The wise and forebearing agree on this.

44. Ask the lands of traitors - their ruins will answer
Those who ask. Their twisted tracks are testimony,

45. Their cunning hidden footsteps and dark night,
Tripping up the times, a dreadful stumbling.

46. Trusting your fortunes safe from a slayer's sword,
Go forth at peace, for it is without flaw or defect.

47. The slayer was slain by the same sword after,
And Suhail rose to strike and then fled.

48. A cowardly rabble, when opposed they fled,
Their lives called them, so they slipped away.

49. Under the dark's cover they crept up by night,
The full moon crowned with stars arrayed.

50. Had God not defended you, protected you,
Morning would find you wrapped in their garb.

51. What they tore, treachery could not mend,
What they undid, the necklace could not be restrung.

52. In that shock, ally forsook ally, stronghold failed.
Guard abandoned and pact retreated.

53. The Shaykh of Saints sacrificed himself for you,
The most precious soul to offer.

54. Their snapping curs did not harm him,
They felled a lofty peak but it stands tall.

55. Thus are the wicked - once unleashed they do
Not stop, though nothing remains to be done.

56. You escaped, like the moon after eclipse,
Plunging through the darkness but appearing anew.

57. To the seat of refuge and sanctuary of hijra you came,
Where, once settled, even feet stumble.

58. The abode of loyalty, where stalwarts dwelt,
Sheltering, victory assured through their aid.

59. Until you were summoned by Al-Mu'tasim,
Noblest, most guarded, and ablest of rulers.

60. You left them, hearts brimming with sorrow,
Throats choking, tears streaming.

61. You rode the dancer's back, bravely leaving
Realm, throne, and homeland - what strength sustains?

62. The sea rose against you, its chest pounding,
The wind cut, blustering gusts unyielding.

63. In an awesome stand, what stand!
Some pleasing, some withering, some withering!

64. Until you reached the capital, restoring order,
Guiding the misguided, settling the troubled.

65. There the ships sailed out to meet you,
Plunging to their purpose, hopes high.

66. Their stern faced you though their faces
Were lit with your victory, delighted.

67. These shall be free women, rejoicing
In the cool bloom of youth, immaculate.

68. Each, her wings like billowing sails,
Carrying, though she knows not what she carries.

69. Dawn rose radiant from your visage,
Dispelling darkness as they shone forth.

70. They embarked upon the lands guided by you
For the opening and victory to come.

71. A remnant of Aad's people You destroyed,
Scattered by the sterile winds, tossed about.

72. With sheerest falsehood they became bold,
Now to obvious truth they are humbled.

73. Your blade reddened where it struck them,
The hue of pooled blood, staining, fixed.

74. You advanced on the day of alarm, and they retreated.
You stirred in the night of dread, and they cowered.

75. You hastened the partisans' demise until
The ways of salvation perplexed them, and they rushed to doom.

76. You left their faces as graves at daybreak,
Their palms like clouds inscribed at dusk.

77. When the necklace was shattered, forming letters,
The swords' suspended harnesses set to work.

78. By God, your people at the canal banks,
When the terrible caller called and they raced.

79. A people, when the dust storm raged on their faces,
They took the banners of jihad and donned them.

80. So faces scoffed at flaming brow,
And palms rebuked the clouds' darkness.

81. O House of Victory, when glories are recounted,
Do not disgrace others and boast.

82. For your lofty ways have no limits,
In which even the ablest rhetorician is humbled.

83. Your contributions to the faith are clear,
Relayed through time, conveyed and retold.

84. Are you not the first meteors whose coming
Did not change His Prophet's path, or replace it?

85. Is not your grandfather the Madeenan abode, his place,
And his companion, the Prophet sent to all?

86. What transmitter after this can embellish
One whose glory the Scripture extols?

87. O pillar of heights, o moon of guidance,
The strongest handhold, unsevered.

88. God's making you the caliph gladdened people
When doubts were dispelled, hopes realities.

89. God's making people love you gladdened cities,
As doubts faded and goals drew near.

90. It heartens worshippers that through you their faith prevailed,
Cleansed of troubling doubt and purified.

91. It gladdens nations that you shade their lands,
God's sheltering veil of protection settled over them.

92. The openings came late for the one who
Plunged from foothold to foothold to reach you.

93. God removes from souls what He wills,
Until the rightful and wrongful stand clear.

94. Fate is beyond any person's control,
Some gain through effort, some despite it.

95. The truth is truth, all else is false,
Could the keen-sighted discerner reflect.

96. The world varies, and ways end differently,
Inevitably, relentlessly, irreversibly.

97. But our return is to God, though long the days.
God is best sought and hoped for.

98. Your Lord left no aggressor against you,
The sword overtakes those who flee it.

99. For their enmity they were seized, could any escape
Or attain what they hoped for?

100. All were taken in mountain passes and roads,
The believers' eyes had their fill of them.

101. Damned be they! They held to no pact,
Nor gained what they imagined.

102. God's enemy saw the result of his betrayal,
Disgrace nearing, awaited or not.

103. He is one below mention, let not the tongue
Speak of him or pay him heed.

104. The world's paltriness allowed the Despised to prevail.
But now the sword rights all wrongs.

105. This is Solomon, carried off by jinn, it is said,
But his throne was restored in the end.

106. No ordeal changed your noble temperament,
Inner nature cannot be transformed.

107. Rather, your wisdom grew broader thereafter,
Encompassing all that can be understood.

108. Time's tests taught you lessons,
Weighing matters, bearing loads.

109. None reproaches you with lack of experience,
Lest the sharp-tongued critic be faulted.

110. Your rule is secure, its pillar steadfast,
The truth clear, leaving no confusion.

111. Your heir came to you, fortune his crown,
Creation his palm's dust, his forehead's kiss.

112. They saw you, o full moon, and crescent anew,
So they lauded and hailed the sight.

113. The bond is whole, most wondrous circumstance,
As your Lord decrees, all-encompassing.

114. You forgave my lifelong sins until
Grey hairs, whose faults cannot be ignored.

115. When my last home was in your precincts,
My soul circled you, ever aspiring.

116. I bring you the lore of statecraft, by which
Kings rise above kings, excelling.

117. Do not neglect the care by which
The she-camels of rule are reigned.

118. Take lessons, sparing none thereafter,
Lest the same faults be repeated.

119. Consider the scales when punishing or rewarding,
Stinginess or wastefulness both merit scorn.

120. If ties are bound, let not passion or desire prevail,
For every match bears some discontent.

121. Guard the tongue from ugly words, for it
May stretch to where the pruning hook cannot reach.

122. If you wound the heart of a freeman unintended,
How can such a wound be repaired?

123. Accept the counsel of an honest adviser,
Thank him though he errs or lies.

124. Rely on diligence in pursuit,
For what is past cannot be reclaimed.

125. When an intimate leaves you, reflect:
What does he take, what does he leave?

126. Give oversight to the paths you establish,
An eye that sees all occurring upon them.

127. Show no panic in adversity, thereby
Is your value diminished and cheapened.

128. Wealth - take it rightfully, knowing
Wealth conveys aims both near and far.

129. With it balance governance costs, save
What exceeds them, weigh all that enters and leaves.

130. In your giving and withholding, consider the scales,
Stinginess and profligacy both draw scorn.

131. Uphold reverence and noble conduct,
Which forbid the ugly and despised.

132. Preoccupy yourself not with indulgence but
What satisfies the wise soul and busies it.

133. The people of this age follow in their fathers' steps,
If they rise, rise with them, if they sink, sink.

134. Take them with pardon, do not expose their secrets,
One is not bound to reveal another's faults.

135. They censured the times and people before us,
Did they find any goodness or sweetness in them?

136. While your intellect in caliphate and rule
Is most excellent, your governance supreme.

137. My lord, time has treated me harshly, unjustly,
While you are the most just leader.

138. It bent me low in my refuge, frightening me
Unfairly, and burdened me beyond my capacity to bear.

139. It cast me and my children into the endless sea,
As if unaware we have no other escape.

140. We are killed by exile, whether one
Is stripped of homeland or slain.

141. This logic cannot be refuted,
As attested in the Book sent down.

142. I became like chicks, needing water to live,
While water lets them thrive and grain sustains.

143. If I rise to join them I cannot,
If I offer excuses they do not accept.

144. I have no means to reach you,
No device to attain your heights.

145. You are my only means to you -
Do not block my quest. For the likes of you grant and fulfill.

146. My children and I have no other mercy;
My case is clear, beyond doubt.

147. Take it as sincere advice dictates,
A necklace of eloquent phrases sequenced.

148. Eloquence's lead offers through it
Wisdom's gems, radiant to gatherings.

149. Thank your Lord for the gift that is you, for
Gratitude multiples the reward of those who give thanks.
