1. Awaken your companion at dawn and bring her to me
Like the sun rising and shining from all her sides
١. نَبِّهْ نَدِيمَكِ لِلصَّبُوحِ وَهَاتِهَا
كَالشَّمْسِ تُشْرِقُ مِنْ جَميِعِ جِهَاتِهَا
2. And turn with the blowing wind any hidden sorrow
And revive joy and pleasure in her life
٢. وَاصْرِفْ بِصِرْفِ الرَّاحِ هَمّاً كَامِناً
وَاحِي السُّرُورَ تَنَعُّماً بِحَيَاتِهَا
3. Her yellow dress undisclosed the cups of her bosom
Her slender waist made time delicate in its essence
٣. صَفْرَاءُ نُسْفِرُ عَنْ حَبَابِ كُؤُوسِهَا
رَقَّتْ فَرَاقَ لَنَا الزَّمَانُ بِذَاتِهَا
4. The blending adorned her with pearls of love droplets
That you'd think were real pearls on her throat
٤. أَبْدَى عَلَيْهَا الْمَزْجُ دُرَّ حَبَابِهِ
فَتَخَالُهُ دُرّاً عَلَى لَبَّاتِهَا
5. As if she appeared between companions in the darkness of night
A full moon with wings of night in its signs
٥. وَكَأَنَّمَا بَيْنَ النَّدَامَى أَطْلَعَتْ
بَدْراً بِجُنْحِ اللَّيْلِ مِنْ آيَاتِهَا
6. Honor her, for nobleness is part of her qualities
And befriending enemies is of her habits
٦. أَكْرِمْ بِهَا فَالصًّفْوُ بَعْضُ صِفَاتِهَا
وَتَصَادُقُ الأَعْدَاءِ مِنْ عَادَاتِهَا
7. From the palm of her soft eyelids it's as if
Some of her years blew away in her eyes
٧. مِنْ كَفِّ سَاجِيِةِ الْجُفُونِ كَأَنَّمَا
هَبَّتْ وَفِي الأَجْفَانِ بَعْضُ سِنَاتِهَا
8. And in her smile's dimples there is
Lightning flashing in her tooth and gum
٨. وَلِثَغْرِهَا عِنْدَ ابْتِسَامِ أَقَاحِهِ
بَرْقٌ تَألَّقَ فِي سَنَا وَجَنَاتِهَا
9. Watering her four lips, though if she frowns
A shower watered her that her eyes wept from grief
٩. سُقْيا لأِرْبُعِهَا وَإنْ هِيَ أَخْلَقَتْ
دِيَمٌ سَقَتْهَا الْعَيْنُ مِنْ عَبَرَاتِهَا
10. Leave India, its homes and who live there
And leave passion to be some of her high morals
١٠. دَعْ عَنْكَ هِنْداً وَالدِّيَارَ وَمَنْ بِهَا
وَدَعِ الْغَرَامَ يَكُونُ بَعْضَ عُفَاتِهَا
11. And get up with your praise that you adorned
With the excellence of the Prince of Muslims - present it
١١. وَانْهَضْ بِمِدْحَتِكَ التِي حَلَّيْتَهَا
بِثَنَا أَميِرِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَهَاتِهَا
12. A king the caliphate raised victorious
And terror flashes under the blades of his lions
١٢. مَلِكٌ أَعَدَّتْهُ الْخِلاَفَةُ نَاشِياً
وَالذُّعْرُ يبرقُ تَحْتَ حَدِّ ظُبَاتِهَا
13. He deserved it and took on its burden
And attained its highest goals and purposes
١٣. فَغَدَا أَحَقَّ بِهَا وَقَامَ بِعِبْئِهَا
وَسَمَا بِأَقْرَبِهَا إِلَى غَايَاتِهَا
14. And opened Andalusia by the edges of his swords
Forcibly, bringing life back to the land after its worries
١٤. وَأَتَاحَ أَنْدَلُساً بِحَدِّ حُسَامِهِ
قَسْراً فَأحْيَا الأَرْضَ بَعْدَ هَمَاتِهَا
15. And poured the water of justice in all its regions
So with that water, its plants grew fresh
١٥. وَأَفَاضَ مَاءَ الْعَدْلِ فِي أَقْطَارِهَا
فَنَمَا بِذَاكَ الْمَاءِ غَضُّ نَبَاتِهَا
16. And benefaction became a flowing custom
So the days were relieved of their crises
١٦. وَغَدَا بِهَا الْمَعْرُوفُ عُرْفاً جَارياً
فَارْتَاحَتِ الأَيَّامُ مِنْ أَزَمَاتِهَا
17. Until swords became like some of his pardons
Asking, so he granted them the necks of his enemies
١٧. حَتَّى السُّيُوفُ غَدَتْ كَبَعْضِ عُفَاتِهِ
سَأَلَتْ فَأَقْطَعَهَا رِقَابَ عِدَاتِهَا
18. How did he masterfully take the reins with his fingers
Born without grabbing being one of their habits
١٨. كَيْفَ اهْتَدَى قَبَضَ الْعِنَان بِأَنْمُلٍ
نَشَأَتْ وَلَيْس الْقَبْضُ مِنْ عَادَاتِهَا
19. O best of those whose stirrups honor treads
And most glorious of those carried on its backs
١٩. يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ وَطِئَ الْعِتَاقَ رِكَابُهُ
وَأَعَزَّ مَنْ حَمَلَتْ عَلَى صَهَوَاتِهَا
20. Terror of you reached the kings of Rome
Who now rush confused in their pleasures
٢٠. بَلَغَتْ مُلُوكَ الرُّومِ عَنْكَ مَهَابَةٌ
فَغَدَتْ تَمُجُّ الرِّيقَ فِي لَهَوَاتِهَا
21. No wonder that fear gripped their hearts
When even lions are feared in their lairs
٢١. لاَ غَرْوَ أَنَّ الرُّعْبَ خَامَرَ قَلْبَهَا
فَالأُسْدُ تُخَشَى وَهْيَ فِي أَجَمَاتِهَا
22. For Muhammed son of Abi Al-Walid there are traits
Of beauty that appeared, and beauty being some of its qualities
٢٢. لِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ شَمَائِلٌ
غُرٌّ بَدَتْ وَالْحُسْنُ بَعْضُ صِفَاتِهَا
23. And generosity that leaves helpless whoever desires it
The least of its gifts occupies the whole world
٢٣. وَمَكَارِمٌ قَدْ أَعْجَزَتْ مَنْ رَامَهَا
تَسْتَغْرِقُ الدُّنْيَا أَقَلُّ هِبَاتِهَا
24. O Muhammed did you perfect the religion of Muhammed
With the good of eternal remembrance being some of its virtues
٢٤. أَمُحَمَّدٌ أَبْلَيْتَ دِينَ مُحَمَّدٍ
حُسْنَى بَقَاءِ الذِّكْرِ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهَا
25. This peninsula will remain glorious, protected by you
O Imam of its governors, if the devil of animosity
٢٥. هَذِي الْجَزِيرَةُ لاَ تَزَالُ عَزِيزَةً
مَحْفُوظَةً بِكَ يَا إِمَامَ وُلاَتِهَا
26. Circles its sky, the meteors of its prayers and alms will stone it
When it called you for its aid, you answered
٢٦. إِنْ طَافَ شَيْطَانُ الْعِدَى بِسَمَائِهَا
رَجَمَتْهُ شُهْبُ صَلاَتِهَا وَزَكَاتِهَا
27. And accepted sacrificing soul to please it
And shook the firmness of determination in the garden of hope
٢٧. لَمَّا دَعَتْكَ لِنَصْرِهَا لَبَّيْتَهَا
وَرَضِيتَ بَذْلَ النَّفْسِ فِي مَرْضَاتِهَا
28. So you reaped refusal of soul in pleasing it
And you deemed the sea's water enough with the dew
٢٨. وَهَزَزْتَ دَوْحَ الْعَزْمِ فِي رَوْضِ الرَّجَا
فَجَنَيْتَ غَضَّ النَّفْسِ فِي مَرْضَاتِهَا
29. So you confronted it, comforted by its gifts
And you came to follow your most exalted grandfather
٢٩. وَحَسِبْتَ بَحْرَ الْمَاءِ كَفَّكَ بِالنَّدَى
فَصَدَمْتَهَا مُسْتَأْنِساً بِهِبَاتِهَا
30. Which the haughty will not accept one who does not follow
Let Andalusia rejoice, your arrival is
٣٠. وَأَتَيْتَ فَعْلَةَ جَدِّكَ الأَرْضَى التِي
لاَ يَرْتَضِي الْعَلْيَاءَ مَنْ لَمْ يَأَتِهَا
31. A protection for it from the tyranny of its aggressors
You make it forget your father's deeds with their fathers
٣١. فَلْيَهْنِ أَنْدَلُساً قُدُومُكَ إِنَّهُ
حِرْزٌ لَهَا مِنْ طَاغِيَاتِ عُتَاتِهَا
32. And the cub is the equal of the lion in its actions
So God will serve you the planets honorably
٣٢. تُنْسِي فَعَالَ أَبِيكَ فِي آبَائِهِمْ
وَالشِّبْلُ نِدُّ الأُسْدِ فِي فَعَلاَتِهَا
33. Its luck and prosperity are in its consequences
And please the eye of the kingdom with the moon that
٣٣. فَاللهُ يُخْدِمُكَ الْكَوَاكِبَ عِزَّةً
لَكَ سَعْدُهَا وَالْيُمْنُ مِنْ تَبْعَاتِهَا
34. The moons submitted to in their halos
And presented her in happiness from its times
٣٤. وَيُقِرُّ عَيْنَ الْمُلْكِ بِالقَمَرِ الَّذِي
خَضَعَتْ لَهُ الأَقْمَارُ فِي هَالاَتِهَا
35. For you, O Prince of Muslims, so act on it
And for me is bliss in composing its verses
٣٥. هَذِي عَرْوسُ قَصَائِدِي حَلَّيْتُهَا
وَزَفَفَتُهَا بِالسَّعْدِ مِنْ سَاعَاتِهَا
36. It gained value by its attribution to you, so its right
Is to take care in narrating it and its transmission
٣٦. لَكَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُسْلِمينَ فَعِمْ بِهَا
وَلِيَ الْهَنَاءُ عَلَى بِنَا أَبْيَاتِهَا
37. And unto your position, a fragrant peace
Given by a house at the blowing of its breezes
٣٧. كَرُمَتْ بِنِسْبَتِهَا إِلَيْكَ فَحَقُّهَا
أَنْ يُعْتَنَى بِرَوِيَّهَا وَرُوَاتِهَا
٣٨. وَعَلَى مَقَامِكُمُ سَلاَمٌ عَاطِرٌ
تُهْدِيه دَارِينٌ لَدَى نَفَحَاتِهَا
